I go away to Germany for a day and it all kicks off! Perhaps we can stop the speculation and wait until June 1st to start seeing what happens (thanks for clarifying the date GE) . There is naturally going to be lots of interest in the comings and goings, however we are looking to maintain a settled squad and not to unsettle it any further by bickering amongst ourselves. We all have differing opinions regards individual players but we all have the same objective - the best for Witton Albion!
There are several players mentioned who we would perhaps like to stay, however as has been stated before, these are private negotiations between the players and Jim and the club. I hope that our ambition, the quality of our football and the season we have just had will all have a bearing on players’ decisions. If money is the single desire then we may lose out. Worth pointing out that the World’s best players are not those that do it purely for the money, they get their rewards because they play the game with passion.
So can we restore a little calm and leave it with Jim over the next 10 days or so?
Yeah agree with whats being said by the sensible Witton fans here, Jim’s done a fantastic job on very little money and is a fantastic ambassador for the club if you think back to the previous duo of Finlay and Brabin with them brawling on the pitch with Bishop Auckland players it makes you realise how lucky we are to have a manager who conducts himself in such a manner which is a credit to the club and makes you proud to be a Wittoner!
Of course Jim is going to make the odd mistake because he is still a young manager learning his trade we just have to remember to take the rough with the smooth and look forward to years of success with Jim at the helm.
By the way on the player front what about Alan Naggington and Dave McPhearson at Leek Town they have both been told then can leave by all accounts due to the financial problems there, both are decent players to I think McPhearson has upset us a time or two with a late goal!
Correct me if I am wrong - but what’s happening is the usual end of season merry go round with players leaving and finding new clubs. There are always some you would prefer not to go, but that’s life.
I am quite sure that JV will be working hard (as ever) to put together a team that will have the objective next season of going one better than this. I don’t think that for one moment JV has anything but the whole hearted support of all true wittoners.
As supporters its our job to support and hopefully working together we will pull it off next time. So can we please stay calm, dignified , plan how we are going to repeat the fantastic fundraising done this year, enjoy the next few weeks and get blood pressure back to normal levels.
Not to upset at the loss of Chris Gaghan and Tom Spearitt, Chris has played a bit part role all season and Tom was our worst defender by a mile, every confidence in Jimmy’s ability in bringing fresh talent to the club.
Further to the news from Connett Victoria this morning concerning the departure of Steve Burr, this follows on from the departures of the assistant manager and physio earlier in the week, whisperings tell me a certain Kevin Tully…yes remember him is in the frame to replace Burr, god help them
Tom S has gone no-where, and he would certainly be a loss if he did. Gaghan is also a big loss as he always performed well when he got a run of games. We missed out on winning the league by 1 goal, so putting down ANY player that contributed to that is far from constructive - especially one who was capatin and a near ever-present for the majority of the campaign.
I would be happy for a team of 11 players like Tom Spearitt, his commitment was superb last season. He arguably played the whole year out of position and also switched to cover other positions when needed - always giving 100%. I very much hope Tom is with us next season. If I have one slight issue it is that we need the captain to be more ‘vocal’ and to make his presence known by organising the team. The captains voice needs to be the loudest in setting up at set pieces, holding the line in defence and moving the defence out together. I believe that Tom is/can be a big player for us next year and fingers crossed he is staying!
