MATCH REACTION Hear from Gainsborough Trinity Head Coach, Tom Shaw after his side got up and running with a point at home to Witton Albion in the Northern Premier League.

Engaging, if surprisingly slightly low key, 1-1 draw at The Northolme yesterday.

Reckon that Carl Macauley, however, will be the happier of the two managers with the point gained.

Trinity’s boss will no doubt have been despairing at their squandered second half penalty (high, wide and most definitely ugly!)

Of the Witton players, thought that Danny McKenna added some bite and industry in midfield after he had had to come on for Rob Hopley midway through the first half.

Nathan Woodthorpe was both hero and villain, a well taken goal from a corner just before half time that fell invitingly at his feet, but then made a naive crunching second half tackle that deservedly received a yellow card that might even have been a red on another day.

Jawad Jebrin and James Hooper both flattered to deceive upfront somewhat, but JJ then almost scored the goal of the game when he lofted a delightful long ball just over the crossbar a minute or so before the missed spot kick at the other end.

And Steve McNulty was (almost) imperious in defence, but then nearly blotted his copybook with a woefully short back pass in the final minute which very nearly resulted in a winning goal for Gainsborough, and was only averted by an last gasp tackle by second half sub James Foley.

All-in-all, a decent result for the Albion ahead of Tuesday’s upcoming home game vs Lancaster City.
