Match pointers
JIM Vince is expecting a tough test at Keys Park tomorrow.

The Albion boss told the Guardian a repeat of last season’s 1-0 win would do just fine.

"We’ve got fond memories of going there," he said.

"Mark Peers scored a cracking goal and we won the game so I’ll be happy to be coming home with the points again."

Alex Brown should makes his first start since returning from a three-month injury lay off after coming through a friendly at Newcastle Town unscathed this week. He also grabbed a stunning winner in Albion’s last league game at home to Ilkeston.

He takes Dave MacPherson’s place as the former Leek man misses out through injury.

Adam Warlow should resume in attack after missing recent matches through illness, with Tony Evans set to drop to the bench.

The other dilemma for Vince is whether to recall Brian Pritchard after resting him last time out. Should he return then Ian Kearney would probably miss out.

"We will run with a small squad for the rest of the season," added Vince.

"The lads that are left are the ones that have managed to get us into the position we find ourselves in now and I’m happy they can finish the job."

Opponents Hednesford have already lost at home to Kendal Town, Eastwood Town, Buxton and Fleetwood Town in the league this term.

Albion boast the best away record, along with Buxton, plundering 25 points on their travels to date. However they did lose at Eastwood on their previous away day.

Phil Starbuck’s men fought back from 2-0 down at Eastwood to earn a point last week, but their chances of making their play-off dreams come true are in the balance at the moment.

And from the midlands ExpressandStar:

Pitmen ready for league leaders
Hednesford are boosted by the availability of two imposing players for tomorrow’s visit of runaway Unibond premier division leaders Witton Albion.

Giant striker Rory May is expected to make his debut after signing from Stratford, while central defender Paul Robinson has completed a two-match ban.

“Rory is a big lad – he’s 6ft 7ins or 6ft 8ins and he will give us what we have lacked in terms of a physical presence,” said manager Phil Starbuck.

“He’s good in the air and he holds the ball up well. He caused us a lot of problems when he played against us in the FA Cup for Stratford and hopefully he can do the same for us.”

May is expected to partner top scorer Ross Dyer as the Pitmen attempt to end a run of five games without a win.

“Hopefully he’s just what Ross needs because Ross has had to do a lot of work. But he’s come through that test and is setting goals up as well as scoring them,” added the boss.

Starbuck is hoping their influence can halt Witton, who are 12 points clear at the top and a whopping 32 ahead of 11th-placed Hednesford.

“The key to them is consistency all over and I’ve said all along they will win the division,” said Starbuck.

“It comes from being able to select the same team, which is something I haven’t been able to do because of injuries and suspensions and I’ve had to bring lads in on loan.”
