Back to reality today boys ! Sloppy defending put us on the the back foot after a promising start when we were holding our own as at Bradford last week.
Ilkeston though are a much stronger team and after gaining the initiative they never looked like conceding. To our credit after a period of pressure by us they did to a good strike from OLSEN but despite bringing on Moseley ( who missed a point blank header at 2-0 ) for Rooney they stood firm and the game drifted away from us.
Great support again for the team - a pity some of the fans who were at Bradford last week decided they could not make it today. Mention for the much maligned DANNY who today despite having his car off the road made the journey with his mate by 2 trains and a taxi from Derby (£17) paid to get in, had a predictions and supported his team.
The December games are vital now - if we don’t get 9pts from Boston and Bradford at home and Leigh away I’m afraid we could be bolloxed
eligorton
Did the team look as though it had changed from the team we had 6 weeks ago? We had a great result against BPA, but was there any pattern in the team today?
Great respect to all the supporters who made the journey in what must have been difficult conditions, I wish I could make the away games, but work permitting I can only just wangle the saturday home games.
So its the cammell on tues then!!!
Stuart
Stuart - in answer to your question - yes I think we do look better than we did 6 weeks ago and we WERE missing Thompson and Moore from last week today. At Bradford last week we held our own early on,took the lead and then hit them on the break but today the task was different when we gave away 2 sloppy goals and never had the ability to really get back in the game. As I said before December really is a crucial time for us now.
Thanx mate
If the truth be told do you think we have the management and the team to avoid relegation this year? Im only asking because I know you and the rest of the people on this forum know more about the team and the club than I would ever learn (being a returnee after 16 years). I am seriously not bothered cos I will still watch the witton, if they played in the northwich sunday league, I was just wandering if the people who live and breathe the team think they are going to avoid relegation. I personally think after xmas we will come strong ang finish 13/14th, what do you lot think? I dont know much about Gary, I know Lee from
92 and if he can pass some of his passion on to the team I think we will be ok.
Stuart
Agree with what’s been said so far. We were hit by injuries somewhat to Lee Thompson, John Moore, and Gary Scott.
Brian Pritchard, Paul Booth and James Olsen were carrying injuries, and hadn’t been fit to train during the week, but still played. Thanks Lads.
Mike Moseley seemed to be feeling a twinge in his right calf, shortly after he came on.
Of the new signings, Stephen Wynne seemed to slot in well at right back, and Thomas Rooney looked useful up front, but without really troubling the 2 big Ilkeston central defenders.
Olivers James, signed last night in a service station car park just off the M56, from Cammell Laird, was unable to play due to a one match ban he had to serve.
Jordan King, returning to football after a serious shoulder injury is still building up his fitness levels.
Ross Thaker and Steve Settle have been released, after Leigh Genesis put in 7 days notice. I think they both want to start games, rather than be on the bench, so I wish them both good luck at Leigh.
I expect to be just as busy this week, so watch this space.
Who actually scored the goal?? From were I was standing i thought it was Mark Smyth, but then people were saying it was James Olsen??

I have faith, and I will keep it.
I do believe we will not finish in a relegation place, and that must be our target!
Having said that, we might be safe anyway. With 2 clubs already having gone into financial meltdown (Cammell Laird and Leigh Genesis), with no doubt more to follow, we might be safe anyway. Add to this certain Conference clubs not being too far away from the same fate, and possibly facing dropping down 3 or 4 leagues, who knows?
So Ross and Steve would rather go to a club with the shadiest future than stay with witton?
Im sorry but, to let two players go who love playing at the club, go to a team who lets face it are not assured of their own survival (ground apart) and who have waited their chance to play for witton, SS was willing to play with pain killing injections, and in my opinion Rossy never let witton down when he had the chance.
From what I have heard about t` manager I hope to see some of his aggression passed on to some of his players>

Having just read your other post, surely we want to win things by playing football, not at the expence of other clubs demise?
Stuart
Not much to comment on todays game. We werent really at the races and to be honest they weren’t all that. The only shots on goal really were the ones that went in, bar a great save from super Greg Smith. In regards to survival Stu, you just gotta hope. We’ve broke the losing streak, theres not too much to be disheartened with today. I think Gary is bringing in better players and theres more motivation coming from the bench than there was previously. Today looked like an ‘off’ day. Before Gary came in each game we lost we looked like a shambles, a Sunday league team. That wasn’t the case today, the result just didnt go our way. Previously i couldnt see where a win was coming from. With the players we are now bringing in I’m confident we can dust ourselves off after this defeat and go out and achieve 6-9 points from the next 3 games which is a must. The focus must now be 100% on Boston!
And United fans will know this song which I tweaked a little bit for our new striker.
'I saw my mate the other day, he said to me he saw the cousin of Wayne, so I asked, who is he? He goes by the name of Tommy Rooney, Tommy Rooney, Tommy Rooney…
or theres the other which is easier to remember( maybe handy for the scousers we have amongst us) which goes…
Rooney! Rooney! Rooney! Rooney! (ongoing)
Have your songsheets learnt off by heart for next Saturday please guys and girls, I’ll be taking a note of names of those who don’t.
Great Danny send me the words and I will sing them from " me smokin patch" cheers mate

Thats what I said in the 1st part of my post.
The 2nd part about the demise of other clubs started “Having said that…”, and was just an observation, and not a wish!
