i too would drop him altogether. after all the problem in this country at the moment is that only too few people have the morals and respect for people and values that are the basis of decent society. a stand has to be made sooner or later if we are to get back to a decent caring society. drop him NOW.
Had this had been Terry, a pipe fitter from Coventry who had had an affair with a former colleagues wife then he would not get the sack or any disciplinary action for doing so. The only time the employer would take any action would be if it had an affect on his work. In many respects you can make an argument for this been a private matter that has no bearing on his day job! On the basis he scored the winner on Saturday then it adds to this point of view
Having the said the above as a footballer he pays the price of the fame and earnings, which is living his life in the public eye. On the basis the guy has a couple of young kids his behaviour is poor, if you accept an award such as ‘dad of the year’ then you are morally bound to act like one!
To restore any trust he needs to come out and tell the full truth and make some apologies, that’s the quickest way he will stop the media frenzy. If he did this then I don’t think he should lose his captaincy or be dropped. He’s going to have to accept plenty of abuse from away fans, probably some cancelled sponsorship contracts and perhaps his wife will decide to have half of everything he has. He’ll pay the price in many different ways!
Whilst I different action it has similarities to when Beckham was sent off in the World Cup, the golden boy became hated overnight, like Beckham it is Terry’s next actions that determine the public’s response.

I agree he should not have his captaincy removed by Fabio, rather he should do the decent thing by resigning. If he was committed to the England cause, he would resign as a player also, so as not to effect the morale of the team, especially those who have feelings towards Wayne Bridge!!!

I completely agree that footballer’s have a responsibility but unfortunately working class lads who end up earning more money than you could ever dream of have a habit of letting them and others down.

A captain of a team at any level is selected to set an example to others. If he or she can’t do that they should be relieved of the duty.
I think if he has a sense of decency (which is an oxymoron i guess) then he should relinquish the armband. How is Wayne Bridge going to feel now when meeting up for international duty?
there should be no debate on whether Terry should be stripped of the honour, he should step down voluntarily. However i don’t think he should be dropped from the squad.

It HAS had an effect on his employment as England captain, not only has Bridge said he will not play in the same side as him but others in the squad will no doubt take sides thus effecting the morale of the team. The England captain should set an example, but rarely does as far as the Football team is concerned, other sports seem less effected by these kind of controversies, perhaps it is just the “nature of the beast” too many overpaid idiots playing the game who think because of the money they are entitled to do what they like, Gerrard is another example as are Rio Ferdinand, Joey Barton et al.

Let’s put this into perspective. Perhaps looking from afar I have not seen all the coverage, but is the woman involved not Bridge’s EX-girlfriend? I don’t know if Terry was the reason for the EX - has that been established? If not then any reference to Bridge being “upset” or unable to play alongside Terry is nonsense.
Rabbit, some of your examples need further scrutiny. Was Wayne Rooney not single when he visited the massage parlour? Is it a crime?
Rio missed a drugs test as you said, not failed, but missed. Is that such a crime? Other than Rio being a daft git? Only the FA deemed it serious enough to enforce a huge ban - making the offence actually appear more serious than it actually was. Oh yes, and while I am on this - exactly the same offence committed by a player at a nearby club (City) was overlooked!
Ashley Cole’s driving ban? Big deal. Who hasn’t been guilty of speeding albeit not caught?
I think you’ll find (as much as it galls me) that Saint Stevie of Gerrard was found not guilty!

Gambling is not a crime. You are talking about millionaire young men. More money and time than they know what to do with. And given that the average professional footballer has an IQ equal to their pink or lime green boot size, is it any wonder they spend their money on fast cars, girls, night clubs, casinos etc.?

Totally agree Eddie, Rooney, Lampard, Neville et al had not committed crimes and neither had John Terry. Jeff’s point was that Terry set a bad moral example to the youth of today and the point is has he set any worse examples than the others? Based on the overall behaviour you can make a case that many of the squad fail to set a good moral example and if that is the case then we would not be able to field a team in South Africa.
What Terry has been is bloody stupid, in the position he has as national team captain he carries a responsibility and as a father to two young kids his life responsibilities are greater than his day job! I’ll think he will suffer from his actions on many levels, the golden boy has tarnished his reputation.
I don’t however believe that the FA will strip him of the captaincy and can argue that they are right based on the fact that his actions have not been criminal and are in his private life. Stupid yes, criminal no. Having said the above I think the only way he retains any ounce of trust and respect is to come out and reveal the full truth and as such stopping any further rumours/dirt dishing. He should probably offer his resignation which at the very least offers the FA an easy route to making that decision if they so wish.
As for Bridge not wanting to play in the same team, he should be so lucky he can’t even get a game for City! Joking apart, that is Bridge’s decision to make, frankly as the innocent party he should be the one with his head held high and not put his own career out. In the 1999 season Sheringham and Cole hated one another and never spoke, that year United won the treble and scored 97 goals!
Eddie, I believe that she is currently Bridge’s ex, but at the time this was alleged to have happened, they were in a relationship.
All footballers, due to the nature of the sport, are in part responsible for the morals of youngsters, and also the behaviour of adults. If a young footballer sees a professional player dive during a match and win a penalty, then they will attempt to replicate. If they see the England captain cheating on his wife then they may well believe that this morally acceptable. I don’t think that Terry should be dropped, he is far too good a player, however, he maybe should be stripped of the captaincy, if it will disrupt the rest of the squad.
Disruption is most likely to occur if Bridge is either in the squad, or gets chosen and refuses to go. However, if Capello sticks to his current selection policy, then Bridge is unlikely to go to South Africa anyway. Whatever the situation, it is ultimately Capello’s decision whether Terry keeps the armband.

With regard to his England future, It’s up to the manager of course. He’ll never step down voluntarily. On a purely footballing issue, he’s too slow to be an international centre-back and will almost certainy be found out at the WC in the summer.
It put’s a new connotation on “Lie back and think of England”.
Terry should be sacked as captain.
Resignation is a matter of conscience and he clearly hasn’t got one.

What is interesting in this whole saga is the professionalism of Capello. The bloke has stayed away from making any comment, taken time to consider what he thinks is the right decision and showed beyond any shadow of doubt that his decisions regards the England team are what matter. This guy commands respect and appears to be the consummate professional. He certainly comes across as a man that does not tolerate any s**t.
Let’s hope he can win us a World Cup and the media can now talk about something else.
Its still a shame that he did not have decency to resign, rather than be sacked
