Nantwich Town

Along with many other neutrals I went to watch Nantwich Town in their play-off final against Sheffield. Nantwich won on pens after it being 2-2 in extra-time. The attendance was 1322!
Should be a good derby match next season.

Yep I’d imagine it could well be our Boxing Day match for starters

Cant wait,
see you in sunnier climes Chad.

Tony Kempster has this as the line-up for next year - but could yet see Halifax in there as well. Looks like a tough season ahead:

Ashton United
Bradford Park Avenue
Buxton
Cammell Laird
Eastwood Town
FC United of Manchester
Frickley Athletic
Guiseley
Hucknall Town
Ilkeston Town
Kendal Town
Leigh RMI
Marine
Matlock Town
Nantwich Town
North Ferriby United
Ossett Town
Prescot Cables
Vauxhall Motors
Whitby Town
Witton Albion
Worksop Town

Seems like a pretty strong list. But with “prodigal” in place, who knows. Let’s hope we can build on last season. Just a couple of tweaks here and there I reckon.

Quite looking forward to re-establishing links with the Dabbers. Always fond memories of going to Jackson Avenue from childhood (yes, I do have a good memory!). New ground now of course. Also, mouth watering games against BPA (another home game for the growing band Otley reds!) and FCUM.

Come on the Albion!

I think the Unibond Prem will be a great league next year. It could be even more competitive than this year with better quality on display. This in turn is going to make it harder to win and we know from experience that expectations can be dashed! We should go into this league with a great deal of belief and determination. We most certainly have something to play for and hopefully will be a match for the other sides in the division. Coming to Wincham Park will be a challenge for any opponent.

Bring it on!!!

Rabbit says " I think the Unibond Prem will be a great league next year "

Umm ! We could see WHS down more often then as soon as the bowls season finishes:dry:

Cammell Laird???

Oh god why didnt we go up!

At least playin FC United not been to one of their matches yet. Cannot wait for that!:woohoo:

Heard a whisper that FC United are moving to Altrincham’s ground next season? Anybody got news of that one? Might make an even better Boxing day game, or even New Years Day?

only for fa cup and trophy games. thatch.

The Dream Ticket for us has to be a Boxing DAY home game against FC UNITED. We’ll probably be away to Worksop though knowing are luck!! I guess a home game against Nantwich would be attractive though managed by a chap I have the utmost respect for and who conducts himself along similar lines to our Jim. In fact he would have been my choice as manager had Jim not returned to the fold!
I suppose looking at it we have a lot of teams that are closer to us and hopefully that might generate more through the gate though I can’t see many coming from Vauxhalls or Leigh but then again who knows particularly if these relegated teams start to do well!! Though I loved it a Stamford and Lincoln they were tidy hikes for us!!

the league Certainly looks good for the new season,FCUnited have quite a strong following so that could put our gate up for that match

That game will be a crowd of 2 to 3 thousand definately! Cant wait! Hope opening day is an away trip though like Buxton (they got that confetti out a little too early didnt they).

Of slight concern may be that FC Utd could be a mid-week game and their mid week support is not as large!August bank holiday would be nice!

Can’t our acting chairman make sure it is a BH game then ?

Just like the big league this! Everyone will be watching the fixtures when they are published to see when they will be playing United!

FCUMs midweek attendances are poor, especially when Real United are playing. We’ll just have to take that on the chin. But what should be avoided at all costs is the debacle that happened when Curzon v FCUM was selected for live NPL-TV and the game was boycotted by the FCUM fans because of the re-arranged kick-off time! I think they ended up getting about 290ish in, when their average was about 200. They must have been expecting 2000+ - they were flying high themselves at the time. What a bummer that would be…

Now, when do we play BPA, Guiseley…?

One of FCUM’s points when being set up was the football should be played at 3 o’clock on a Saturday. The irony is this will cause them more problems the better they do in the league structure, will they refuse to play on Sunday tea-time if the make the Conference? They appear to sit on both sides of the fence with regards to wanting the income, the league progress, etc but then not being willing to move kick-offs.

I believe that clubs can put requests to the NPL for certain ‘local derbies’ to be staged on specific dates, this is one for GE on his return. Their two best attended away games last season were the opening two fixtures of the season, on the August Bank Holiday the crowd at Rossendale was 2,023, which is huge when you bear in ind that Rossendale played in front of home crowds as low as 82, 86 and 91 during the season!!!

If we can get the home fixture against FCUM on one of the opening Saturdays of the season or the August Bank Holiday then this would be a great gate to start the season. 2,000+ at £9 would certainly be a big revenue boost at a key time.

:pinch: I think that the point is that the FC United team wouldn’t refuse to play at a daft o’clock kick-off, but that the FC supporters would decide not to attend. Bad enough getting home from somewhere like Gateshead on a Wednesday night for a re-arranged game, imagine getting back for work on a Monday morning after a game at Weymouth that has been switched to a Sunday night at the behest of a TV company!

Sometimes TV companies are taking the p*ss!

I don’t disagree agree with you Peter regarding TV companies taking the p***! You only have to look at the schedule for games this week, there has been a game on TV every night (much to the annoyance of the Mrs).

The point I was making is that the higher FCUM go the more their morals will be tested! Whether it is TV money, sponsorships, other commercial monies or outside investment, these become increasing more important the higher the level of football. Gate receipts don’t pay the wage bill at the top level. FCUM’s reluctance to ‘sell out’ could slow their progress or alternatively they just become a clone of the club they were breaking away from!
