New Players

Looking at the signings so far on the main website it looks like a Nantwich/Winsford team !

I have no problem with that, presumably many are local lads.
WHS.

Just had a look at the list on the official web site, glad to see that Adam Foy has been invited to attend, I always had a “soft spot” for Adam, I thought he was a cracking player before he got injured, hopefully he is now fully fit and back to his best.

Dear Wittoner,

Squad news
A mixture of youth and experience is the forming the make-up of Paul Ogden’s

talent is also evident, as Ogen looks to take his side back into the Premier

Those signed to date are:

Adam Bayley -
A commanding central defender who made 49 appearances for Winsford United last
season, contributing 3 goals

Ryan Broadhead -

defence

significant experience at this level of football having played last season for
Curzon Ashton, whom he joined from Colwyn Bay, and counts Leek Town and Ashton
United as other club’s within the league.

Nantwich Town in September 2009

The manager has been talking to Paul Booth who continues to make progress in his
rehabilitation following hs injury last season, and arrangements are in place
for Paul to train with the squad as and when he is in a position to do so.

training ahead of the start of the season by manager Paul Ogden and have agreed
to do so

Other club news
We are looking to hold a summer party at the social club possibly after the Runcorn away match on Saturday 17th July. More details will follow once everything is confirmed. If you know of any inexpensive local DJs or local bands or can offer your help in any way please get in touch as we’re trying to raise as much money as possible for the floodlights fund.

Finally we are also investigating the possibility of holding a kids summer camp at the club during August. The camp will not only earn vital funds for the club but hopefully will also start to build a new young fan base for the coming seasons. I really need volunteers who can help out by providing kids games, books or sports equipment of any kind along with any of their spare time to help out during the camp itself. I’m also hoping to get the message out through local schools and businesses and hopefully some local advertising so if anyone can help on that front, I would be delighted to hear from you.

Hope to see you all very soon.

Best wishes

Clodagh Buckley

Commercial Director
Witton Albion FC

Reasonably happy at this stage with the lads in the squad. Glad we’ve kept Danny Warner from last year as he’s got a sweet left foot and was one of the few who put in the effort. I’m sure if other people become available Oggie will be in there. One things for sure we will have a balanced team who will give 100% with Oggie at the helm.
Great idea on the summer camp Clodagh, Your a real asset to our club. Its a great initiative hope its successful and encourages more youngsters to support our great club. Maybe WHS could dress up as a Summer Father Christmas!!
On WHS you keep posting people don’t have to read what you have to say but as a dedicated supporter your’e entitled to your say. Put this on here cause you had the thread closed down.
Looking forward to the season now and I’m sure we’ll be better than Fabios clodhoppers thats for sure!!

I will dress up as ANYTHING if it creates more Wittoners or brings in more money!!

Not Sure if im that impressed with the squad list so far to be honest, looks could be deceiving but most of the new players ( with the exception of Macca and broadhead ) are not proven at even our lowly level, of the proven 3 retained players ? pritch needs to get properly fit, pete heler is fine however im not a big fan of danny warner he has got a decent left peg but cannot defend and no pace, the balance of the players seem to be from Winsford ( ex nantwich youth ) or ex nantwich squad players, considering neither team pulled up trees last year it leaves me a bit worried, but I hope im wrong and it works out great and we have picked up all the best local young stars of the future to blend with our proven players !
If any one has any good info on the signings it would be good to hear it - just need my worries easing a little.

Young players, great old Coach, sounds like a winning combination to me.
WHS.

Fully agree with you CJ but did not want to say first as I get accused of being negative(Don’t know why ?)

Would like to see a Rob Lloyd and Alex Brown type player amongst that lot really but there is still time.

Would’nt be surprised to see some old Albion players returning ( Not too old though  )

Have PM WUFC to give us information on the Winsford players we are looking at !

Pretty gutted you have signed all these players from us but what can you do when players who are not on contract are offered a chance to play at a higher level? I wish good luck to all of them and hope they do well in the Evo-Stik and eli_gorton asked me to give you some info on them so here we go:

Adam Bayley - Yes, its ‘Bayley’ not ‘Bailey’. Probably the player I’m most disappointed we lost, won our Fans’ Player of the Season award and was our captain. Can play centre-back or right-back, probably better at right-back as he is quick and not the tallest. A very good player for us last season. Only 20 years old, great future ahead for him.

Josh Hancock - Gave information on him on another thread here

Andy Kinsey - Forward that we signed from Congleton in Febuary I think, really improved our team. Used to play for Nantwich and looked as though he belonged at a higher level, one of those players who looks like he has more time on the ball than everyone else, very good technically however did not score the goals we expected of him but as a team we didn’t score many goals really. had some outstanding performances performances towards the end of the season, winning many man of the match awards and full commitment despite a family bereavement.

Elliot Ledwards - Left-back who was the son of our manager from September to February, Tony Ledwards, but left in February along with his dad. Fans had mixed opinions on him, I personally liked him, decent going forward and a pretty solid defender. Scored an absolute cracker of a goal against Cammell Laird witnessed also by one ‘Left Pegger’ when he was down at the Barton for a watch of his Blue neighbours.

Jack McKay - Also mixed opinions on him from fans, personally I wasn’t his biggest fan. Played right-back as he said he felt that was his natural position but when he was moved to right-wing he looked a much better player. Sometimes looks uncomfortable on the ball and had a tendency to play poor passes and hit many a ball out of play. However always gave 100% and only 18 years old so maybe plenty of good development yet.

Phil Parkinson - Centre midfielder who came to the club at the same time as Andy Kinsey and also played for Nantwich in the past. Fell out with the club over money issues towards the end of the season so we only got about 10 or so games out of him. More of a Gareth Barry type of midfielder, sits there and does his job of breaking up attacks and lets more attacking players go forward.

Liam Prince - Another centre midfielder who lost his place when Parkinson joined, however I feel he did not deserve to, a good player and a real battler in the centre of midfield. Only 19 years old and will probably do well at Evo-Stik level. Consistant performer, always get 7 out of 10 or above from Prince. Also, definitely ‘Prince’ not ‘Price’.

Good luck to them all and please refrain from signing all our players in the future B)

Thanks for the info WUFC - very well presented.

Too much time on your hands WUFC.

After studying WUFC analysis there may well be some good prospects amongst them. They deserve a chance anyway and together with the more experienced players we could be alright. As CJ says not sure about Pritch’s fitness - he has had a lot of injuries and at this stage of his career that can be deleterious. Although 2 years on Macca should be Ok as he is built like a racing snake !(Unlike some)

Thanks Eli, Wufc, Lets hope the developing youngsters are part of the squad and are allowed to develop over time, think we will need some more experienced signing yet to be in contention, I am sure its all part of the plan ! The last time we robbed winsford was mike mckensie and his team, it did not work out too well then

B)[/quote]

Always knew you were a blue Left Pegger :stuck_out_tongue:

3 Winsford games in my life, all when Albion were away… definitely a Winsfordian

Anyway, from what I’ve heard most of these Winsford lot are talented young lads. We just need to give them planty of time to bed in and support them. I’ve got faith in Ogden, he’s been a manager long enough to know what he’s doing. I just think we need a few more experienced players to give us that extra depth. Although I’ll let Terry Murphy and Oggie decide who they are.

I too had a few reservations when I saw the players we have signed-on for next season.

However, now I have let it sink in for a few days, I am beginning to feel this could be a team for the next 3-5 seasons, not a team to get us promotion in the first 2 seasons.

This is a time when we need to see the TRUE WITTONNER come out of us fans.

The big word next season must be “PATIENCE”. It is a team for the future, not for the immediate. If after 10 games we have only won 3 of them, then we need to support the management and the players even more, and not get on their backs.

This is a longterm vision Mark and Oggie are giving to us, and we need to be part of it, and still support the club through rough times as well as the good times.

If all goes well, in 5 years time we may have a squad of mid 20 year olds who have been with the club for several years, Wittonners through and through, playing at Conference level.

The problem with non-league TT is holding on to players for 3 to 5 months, let alone 3 to 5 years. With few, if any, contracts the transient nature of semi pro football sees players moving on for an extra £10 a week.

What I like from what I have heard so far is that is that those players who make their first question of “how much are you paying” are not been considered.

It is unfair to judge the current signings until the manager and coaching staff have had time to work with them. The likes of Canning (who I believe Curzon paid a £1k for a season ago), Josh Hancock and one of two of the others look to be exactly the kind of player we should be signing. We can’t expect to reduce the budget, stress the desire to try talented players close to home and then criticize the manager when he does that. A local lad netted V*** a rather good pay day in the cup remember!

If we can get commitment, passion and some loyalty from a good group of lads and blend this with the experience of Pritch, Macca and the likes of Heler then before too long we could have the makings of a good side, capable of getting out of the division.

I’m looking forward to pre-season and watching it come together.

Hanson said “You don’t win anything with kids” He was wrong, you can win with kids. I see no reason why these young lads cannot start winning right from the start, if they are good enough, they are old enough.
