Our Football Club - Our Future

I have been quiet on the subjects dominating the message board over the last few weeks. (Unusual but hey!) Perhaps in hindsight others should also have been.

Now is the time to look to the future and ensure that the efforts to stabilise and develop our football club continue and aren’t undermined by recent efforts.

As most of you know I have fronted on behalf of the supporters, and with the help of countless others the fundraising efforts to augment the football budget. Over £20,000 in two seasons. THIS IS A FANTASTIC ACHIEVEMENT!

As a result in part, of recent events we now need to raise as supporters a significant amount of money equal or in excess of that figure to continue that development and ensure that the group of players we currently have see us through into next season and beyond.

If you feel that you can help, and without being disrespectful - in a monetary way in the first instance then please contact me.

We ideally need 20+ people/groups prepared to plegde/give £500 each by September to set the ball rolling.

I won’t go into any more detail than that in an open forum but would suggest that if we don’t achieve these sort of numbers then our team in its current guise will be no more.

I’ll lead by example and will of course respect everyones right to anonimity

Trying not to take away from this thread or the one that Chad has got running, this has appeared on the Guardian website tonight:

Harris: We need fans’ help
BE PATIENT - that’s the message to Witton fans from acting chairman Mark Harris.

He told the Guardian tonight that an announcement on the club’s next manager would not come until early next week.

“I know that’s not what supporters want to hear,” he said.

"They want to know who the next manager will be and if he’s called Jim Vince.

“I understand that but I don’t want to make any decisions until the right foundations are in place.”

He did commit to saying there was only one candidate for the job at the moment.

On Tuesday - the day Mike Worthington stood down as chairman after a decade at the helm - he said he hoped to have filled the managerial vacancy within 48 hours.

That has not happened but Harris was happy to explain why.

"It’s taking us a bit longer to come up with the right financial package, he said.

"Although we had a great season on the pitch this year, the running costs had to be supplemented. Since the end of the campaign it’s become clear that money has to be repaid.

“That leaves us with another hole in the finances that must be filled.”

The Guardian has learned this week that there was a £4,000 overspend on last year’s playing budget as Witton went for top spot in the UniBond Premier Division.

Even that does not come close to matching the sums that rivals Fleetwood Town and Gateshead spent on their teams.

Harris has been in talks with finance director Paul Worthington, the former chairman’s son, to come up with ways to make up the shortfall.

They plan to call on supporters’ help.

"We have come up with a figure that the club can generate but that still doesn’t match last year’s budget.

"What we aim to do now is work with leading supporters to see if they can help us once more. Their efforts over the past year have been magnificent, I want to see if we can do the same again.

“I want to be in a position where we can give whoever the manager is the resources that has taken us this far and hopefully even further but we’re not there yet.”

Dear Andy

Picked up my pen at last

The North Norfolk Witton Supportes Club will be donating to the cause, just let me have my holidays first

Mike Gandy

Hi Andy…great thread you’ve started.

Unfortunately, being an out of work pensioner with a mortgage of £1160 per month, unfortunately I can’t afford to join in.

However, I have sent my CV off for a couple of jobs this weekend. If I am successful, you can have my first 2 weeks wages, rounded up to £500. (don’t tell Paula).

Somehow, I think this thread needs to get outside of the forum, and into the Northwich Guardian forum (either online, or better still, by a lettor to the Sports Editor to be printed in next weeks paper). This could then attract those many Wittoners, who do not log on to the forum.

You might want to suggest shared contributions. You never know there might be 2 wittoners out there who can’t afford £500, but can afford £250 each! (or even 4 wittoners who could afford £125 each).

Keep it going… Come on the Albs!!!

Finally, if it is feasable at sometime in the future to increase our share capital, then it maybe a carrot that the valant 20 wittoners will be rewarded with shares to the value they have contributed?

Calling all pensioners from age 15-99. Can’t afford £500.

Then join Eli’s Syndicate and pledge whatever u can manage.

2 pledges already. Present Total £100

Pledge on this thread or PM me if u r shy or wish to remaib anonymous

Eli

Right lets start the ball rolling
I will be running the 200 club again this season
And I want to increase it to £15 instead of £10 per card
I am sure that an extra £5 per person wont harm anyone
If we get 200 and that will increase the money we put straight into
the managers budget,
If anyone thinks this is too much please say so now
I will also want as many of you as possible to sell me some of these
As we can start the season off with a good lump sum
If anyone as any other ideas of raising funds please come up with them
ASAP as we need the money now not half way through the season
WITTON ARE BACK lets make it another great season with a better ending

The initial response has been superb, as a direct result of which we now have the man we all want back in charge of team affairs.

But I cannot emphasise strongly enough how important it is to achieve our initial objective and have 20 people/groups of people backing the club,JV, Nige and their squad of players for the season ahead.

In answer to a few queries and comments, £500 is a lot of money to find, but there will be a number of opportunities throughout the season for people to help in other ways, functions, 200 club, coaches, predictions, BUT as I stated earlier our immediate priority has to be the initial cash funding.

With regard to publicising it outside this forum - word of mouth and the information meeting are my preferred communication route, I think talk of the club asking Supporters for financial help in the local papers could send out the wrong message.

If anyone requires any further information or can help then please drop me a personal message or e-mail me - andrew.chadwick@kingspan.com.

Len, I remember shelling out loads on the £1 per goal a couple of seasons back. Is that still running?

Also, please send me 10 entry forms for 200 club - I’ll do my best.

Great idea ELI,

If your down at the reserves tonight, I’ll double that 1st £100.

ELI’S SYNDICATE NOW STANDS @ £150 with another pledger coming on board today.

Come on boys we can reach £500 well before September - any AMOUNT will do.

Don’t be shy YOU know YOU have been LOOKING and want to join in.

This Syndicate has been fully authorised by Mrs Gorton

ON my way now TT

Thats 4 pledges now = £250. We are half way there boys.

Eli, Len why don’t you combine the 200 club and the pledges so that you can have a possibility to win something with the money you pledge. For instance why not say that your name goes into the draw for every £50 you put in.So if you have pledged £500 then you are 10 times more likely to win the prize. I will put £100 forward to this.

Over to you Len ! Incentive maybe ?
