Pre Season

When are we announcing our Pre Season friendlies? Ive seen a few teams announce their playing us via Twitter so the games must be already arranged yet we have heard nothing from official sources at Witton?

I’ve seen two mentioned through other clubs but whether they are confirmed I’m not sure.

18th July - Barnton Away.

4th August - Ashton Athletic Away.

As I said, I don’t know if these are confirmed yet.

Ive seen 2 other teams announce there playing us but dont want to get my hands slapped by mentioning them until its officially announced

The two I’ve mentioned were on the respective clubs twitter pages but that’s why I’ve also put that I don’t know if they are confirmed because, we haven’t announced anything yet.

Pre Season Friendlies now confirmed.

Saturday 18th July - Barnton FC AWAY

Tuesday 21st July - Altricham HOME

Tuesday 28th July - Stalybridge Celtic HOME

Tuesday 4th August - Ashton Athletic AWAY.

The club are hoping to announce others and admission prices/kick offs will be announced in due course.

Looking forward to it already, hope to get to most of those if possible, lets hope the new manager can pull some decent players from his contacts and keep hold of our better players if he can we should be able to at least challenge for the playoffs but no pressure Ha.

The Barnton FC friendly has been agreed apparently, as our Reserves will be playing their home games at Townfield Lane next season. This is due to the fact that Witton Albion Reserves are going to be playing in a different league next season and floodlights are required.

Two more Pre season friendlies confirmed:

Tuesday 25th July - Alsager Town - AWAY.

Saturday 8th August - NANTWICH TOWN - HOME.

Correction:

Alsager is Saturday, 25th July NOT Tuesday.

Nantwich at home? What an awful idea that is, they only bring 30-40 for a league game. Surely pre season friendlies at home should be used to try and generate some much needed income. We’re always banging on about how tight money is and we do this!

we never get any big teams coming to our place but every pre season play plinky plonky teams which is really annoying.we are surrounded by loads of prem and championship clubs but insist on playing the dog n duck and red lion.

Very few come to friendlies no matter who we play. Nantwich are now in a league above us and will give us an idea where we are at playing wise. Should play both sets of “Arabs” though, that would be fun!!
WHS.

I see the snipers and gripers don’t take the summer off.

But it is true…

We played blackpool at home the year before last and barely 200 turned up! I think most people tend to be on holiday, saving their money for the new season or are just not that interested in friendlys regardless of the opposition!?

Personally I don’t think it matters too much who we play, it just gives the manager (particularly a new one) a chance to have a look at his squad and to get some fitness work done. I rarely go them as I find them abit uninteresting, just like the pointless England games we have rammed down our throats on tv. I will probably go to the odd one but generally I prefer to wait for the proper stuff to start.

Having said that I wouldn’t have minded a trip to the north wales seaside like we organised last year

Wittoners moaning again, what a shocker .argument .argument

“That’s what we do, that’s what we dooooo, we’re Witton Albion, that’s what we do”

who is moaning, the fact is one decent side in a friendly can generate a big crowd which means money.whats wrong with that.

It doesn’t always work out that way posty. Just look at last seasons home friendlies:-

Telford - match takings of less than a third of a normal home game.

Bradford Park Avenue - a lot worse than Telford!

Stoke City - less than Telford.

Chester - Just short of an average take for a league game.
