One of the Non -League papers is today speculating over the future of Witton Albion manager Jim Vince. They report that Jim has yet to sign for next season and is being linked with other clubs. Jim himself is reported as saying that he is as ambitious as any other manager but is concentrating on the job in hand and will decide at the end of the season.
WHS, i think that comment is VERY disrespectful to alot of well-run Clubs, hard-working managers, and committed players who ply their trade in the Unibond league.
For the 2nd successive year the Unibond title race is going down to the last weekend of the season, whilst at the other end there are is are any number of potential outcomes for the teams facing relegation.
I would say that this league has been very exciting for the last 2 years, and you should show a little more respect than to constantly bad-mouth those competing in it.
Speaking with the former albion players that took us to Wembley in '92, the general consensus was that the team split up too early and could have gone on to many great things. Sixteen years on and they still regret it to this day.
I do understand that both the current manager and players have ambitions to manage/play at a higher level, but please lads, don’t have the same regrets of those of '92…
WHS while I concede that some of the grounds/towns we visit in the Unibond league are hardly the most glamorous of places, I think it is outrageous to slag off the teams in this league. Yes there are nasty people around, and some of the teams don’t play the most attractive football I’ve ever seen (but neither do Chelsea or Bolton!!)I have fantastic memories of a lot of trips to wierd and wonderful places and some of the sights I have seen will stay with me for a long time!!!
The committed and professional approach of people at every club (maybe not Frickley) is a credit to this league and to adopt such an elitist approach is offensive to all of those people, many of which give their time for nothing!!
Going back to Jim; if he chooses to go then that’s his decision to make. We can’t for one second claim that he hasn’t given us his all, aswell as 2 and a half seasons of great football and fantastic memories. The same goes for the playing squad.
I’d hate to see this squad torn apart like the 92 team was, but if we don’t go up then we have to be prepared for that.
For those people getting on the teams back now, then maybe you will be happier if we did go back to mid-table mediocrity next season?
The one thing that i would say though, is that the grass isn’t always greener. Before Jim or anyone else makes a decision on their future (which wont be for at last a week anyway!), the best example you could wish to find is Benny Phillips. He thought he had it made at BPA, but look what has happened to him since walking out on Witton!
Anyway, none of this matters coz Leek are getting a point tomorrow and we are going up on Saturday AS CHAMPIONS.
My point was NOT that the other clubs were badly run but that they have few supporters, even fewer who are willing to travel like our lads do. Few can argue that there is rarely an atmosphere at our ground due to there being no one from the other club to banter or counter-chant at. The Mid-Cheshire League is a “Decent” league but I don’t want Witton in that one either. We are a well supprted club with a great little ground, a great staff, from the Chairman down, and a damn good team and Manager, we deserve to be in a better league.
WHS.
Quite simply Jim is the best thing thats happened to Witton during the last 50years. If he goes it will be a disaster and set us back years. I feel I know the lad a little bit now and every time I see him after the match we have a chat where I always raise concerns and Jim explains his point of view. I generally agree with him after these chats but the fact he even talks to me and always waves when he sees me on the terraces means its very special to me. Jim if I ever come up on the lottery the first thing I’d do if I won several million would be to ensure you and the players got a rise. That way I’d hope you’d stay with us. I hope you’ll stay with us now because the job is not complete yet and I believe in the future there will be great potential at Witton to realise your ambitions.
Stick with us mate because having supported the club for fity years I can tell that I’ve never experienced anything else like it on the terraces where all the fans thing your the best and are united right behind you. Yes we’ll express are opinions about some games but at the end of the day we like admire and are in awe of the job you do for us off and on the field!!
Jim doesn’t strike me as the type of person who would walk away! There is something very special about our club, the management and playing staff are first class, the fans are great, and there is a great feeling at the moment. If we can get out of this league, which isn’t proving easy, then I think we can expect plenty more success in the future. Now is the most crucial time that everybody sticks together, simple as that. Lets hope Leek do us a favour tomorrow and we take the league title on Saturday, if that doesn’t happen we’ll just have to win the play offs instead!!
It goes without saying that Jims departure would be devastating for the club, he’s a superb manager who’s brought in a fantastic squad of players (couple of rough diamonds required for the more physical games), and they play some terrific football.
I only hope he stays here to continue what he’s started and I think he may well get us back amongst non leagues elite if we can just climb out of this division, personally think it will be via the play offs (more money into the kitty) as I can’t see the cods slipping up.
Huge vote of confidence needs to be shown to Jim, Nigel and the squad as we need them all here next season no matter what.
This is proberly a rumour to unsettle the team,Jim as been the best manager we,ve had for many a year,he,s built a team that has been up there challinging for promotion in the past 2 seasons and hopefully he will take us up either as Champions,or via the playoffs, this year.So lets not think of anything that may not happen, and get behind Jim and the team on Saturday, and poss the playoffs.Lets not be Negative.
