Sportsmans evening

I’m sure most of you already know about this but I thought I would post anyway just to make sure.

Our guest of honour is the former Liverpool FC legend, Danish International, Football Manager and current BBC Radio 5 Match summariser Jan Molby. Jan is regarded as one of the best foreign players to have played English football and is now one of the leading after dinner speakers.

We also have top Comedian Mike Milligan, Mike is an established act, with many years experience on the national comedy circuit; including the Comedy Store and Jongleurs' clubs as a regular compere. He is also a resident compere at Newcastle's Hyena Comedy Cafe , which was acclaimed as ' One of the top ten comedy clubs in the country'.( Daily Telegraph).

The dinner is on the 15th October and tickets are just £30.00, tables are seated in groups of ten but if you require a larger table I’m sure we will be able to sort something out for you. A three course dinner is included in the price.

If you are interested in booking please feel free to call, this is already proving to be a popular event so please call soon to avoid disappointment.

Without stepping on Picko’s toes here, if anyone wants to come and be on a supporters table let me know. (just incase like me you might not have 9 other mates you can drag along!)

See myself at the match tomorrow or next Tuesday.

cheers

Can you put me down for a place on the supporters table please (I’ll promise not to bore you with my bad jokes).

Me too please Wilsonio. You can pick me up!!!

Hi all, Thanks Neil for putting together the supporters table, I can’t stress how important the sportsmans evening is in the short term for the club, after a good initial response yesterday two tables pulled out so please if you can come along please do and if you can persuade anyone else it will be a superb night with two of the best speakers on the circuit at the moment.

Got the text from whoever sent it, Unfortunately I cant attend as the wife is out that night and I already owe the Bolivian national debt in babysitting fee’s

It was me Grazz - got you down the robbo and Jeff. Thanks

Neil

Can you put me down for 1 ticket on the Supporters table please?

Regards
Richard Sandland

Michael Owen wants a ticket - he’s got nothing else to do next Wednesday apparently :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorted RS65 - see you there.

I am certain this is an occasion when the car needs to be left at home…so does anyone want to share a taxi to and from the ground?
I live in Hartford.

Yes please…I live on the Pippins.

Well someone has to TT !

Just a reminder - we have 6 on the supporters table so any last minute takers are more than welcome.

Just contact myself or post on here.

Any more for the Hartford Taxi?

2 of us so far

Have Sportsmans Evenings lost their appeal or is APATHY spreading amongst our supporters?

Great effort by ALL concerned last night. Those who were there and supported this FUND RAISING event I think enjoyed it. A turn out of about 40 was a disgrace and an insult to the people who gave up time and effort to organise the event. Credit to Jan Molby and the comedian, they recognised the poor turnout but did not let it affect the part they played. Thanks to Rod Thornley for getting the Stevie Gerrard shirt which I believe the sale of enabled that we did not actually lose money on the night. Thanks also to Sketchman for stepping in at the eleventh hour and providing us with a PA system to enable the event to go ahead.

If u were there thanks and if u were not - shame on u!

Highlight of the night without a doubt was Nigel Nutt’s departure from the proceedings - which left everybody in hysterics and the comedian almost speechless.

I am still keeping the faith !

Well said Eli.

It wasn’t so much the people who didn’t support it. I am sure if Picko had known beforehand that only 33 plus 7 on the top table were going to turn up, he would have cancelled the event!

It is sad to see 40 people say they were going to turn up, but failed to do so on the night.

The other sad thing was Pete Jepson’s face as he had to throw away such well prepared food. What a waste!

Great idea that Stu. A lot of the time its something else that comes up last minute, or people sit at home on the night and think ‘i cant be bothered’ going out now. So if people can pay up front 4 stuff and they could leave the option there for match tickets too. Perhaps offering a slight discount 4 paying with a card online. The amount of people that buy tickets 4 games and that dont bother going last min, in the higher leagues is unreal

Is there any update on what activity there has been on the sponsorship front? We haven’t had many updates recentley on this and is anyone getting out there in local company’s etc to try and bring some cash in aside from the money from fans?

Also maybe an idea would be a cheaper sportmans evening say a tenner a head and maybe focus on local non-league football the likes of Alvin McDonald, Paul Ogden or Kevin Tully am sure would have a good few story’s to tell which would be entertaining and relevant to us Wittoners.

Without stepping on Pickos toes I can assure there is commercial activity going on - it has to be about the worst time in recent memory for trying to get people/companies to part with their cash. (and understandably so)

Re the sportsmans and the cheaper alternative - this was tried several years ago - we had Ogden, Gleghorn, Bishop and someone else - could have been Alvin actually and was priced at a fiver - take up was even less than last Wednesday and it was cancelled as the speakers were doing it for nothing and it wasn’t fair to put them through talking to a half empty room!

Not a dig Nick but hopefully some answers for people reading.
