I don’t agree to blame the board they put hours and hours plus good money into the club and will be hurting just like us, yes he appointed Sully but the manager takes the rap for football non performance and he has rightly gone, the board maintained the set budget but an overspend had to be cut back after the FA cup loss, Mark has strengthened the board now so let’s see how they pull together now starting with getting the right man who can bounce us straight back up in as the new manager, we need our board and we need to all pull together now and help the club through a tough time.
Absolutely gutted but the table doesn’t lie and third from bottom is a true reflection of our performances throughout the season. I agree that the board must shoulder the majority of the responsibility. I have always backed Sully but in hindsight it was an absolutely bonkers decision to appoint someone completely untried with no experience at this level when we were in a steep downward spiral at the time anyway. I always thought that the board must know something about Sully that I didn’t, clearly that wasn’t the case.
As for next season my gut instinct is that I will probably go to the odd game but will find other things to do on most Saturday afternoons. I hope other Wittoners aren’t as downbeat as me but I fear that there will be some that are. I can not and will not bring myself to watch the football club I love in a league not much better than the Sunday league.
Mark has strengthened the board with what? He brought in two new directors not so long ago, I don’t know them or their backgrounds but what have they contributed exactly? Wasn’t one supposed to be an ex-football agent that had loads of connections? We have bought in rubbish after rubbish all season, hence why we have gone down. And if the board did not think Sullivan was up to the job they should have got rid weeks ago or not even appointed him in the first place.
the chairman appointed sully cos he was the cheapest so in my eyes he is fully to blame.
Oh and what if Vics come up through the play offs? As I understand it they will have priority for home games at Wincham Park next season. Will that be Sullys fault aswell?
CJ take your blinkers off Posty Red is spot on the chairman is totally accountable and it was all about the budget!
I’m hurting as much as anyone but I won’t be turning my back on the club. I’ll still be going to every game I possibly can home and away whatever league we end up in coz at the end of the day we’re still Witton albion!
I am “me” Andy Lomas can I ask who postyred and Red Elvis are please ? ?
i knew who you were so no need to tell me.most people know who i am so they can tell you.
It really is nonsense to say that Evostick 1st is little better that Sunday league. Also the South certainly is not easier to win , not for us anyway due to the extra travel costs, we didn’t win it last time.
However I do think that if The green scum get up via the playoffs we are finished, and I was vehement in my disagreement with the grounshare and said it could finish us (and I didn’t believe at that time for a moment that we would be going down!). Believe me the decision to groundshare with them NOT taking a chance on Anthony Sullivan is the worst thing that’s been done.

I have followed Witton since the early to mid 1980’s (no doubt you and many others have been following us longer than that, which is fine) and as far back as I can remember we were always in the northern premier league, one division below the conference until we eventually got there for a few years. At a fans meeting last year I clearly remember Nigel Deeley (someone who has the club in his heart and knows the club more than most of us) saying that we have never been at the level we are and that it is not good enough. We have lowered ourselves even further today. Have a look through every league in the land and there will not be many clubs (if any) in a relegation spot that still have the 10th best average attendance in their respective league.
I’m not disrespecting the Evostick 1st, all I am saying is that I have only ever been interested in it when we were in it last time and that I never wanted to be again - it is way below where this club should be. I believe that with our following, volunteers and fund raisers the absolute minimum should be the league we are (or at least were) in. I will not be following the club as much next season as I have this and most of other seasons of my life. Call me a glory hunter, armchair fan or whatever you want - I am a realist and getting relegated today simply does not add up.
As for Vics I completely agree with you. I wouldn’t go as far as saying we are finished but, again, it does make we wonder which direction the club is taking.
spot on paul s
I too have followed this club for 20+ years and can only remember us being a good solid npl side but now jeez we are a dreadful side with an abhorrent record in every cup competition this year like most yyears. It needs clearing out from top to bottom whether that makes a difference who knows. Maybe our level is now below where i always considered it to be which is just wrong but hey we made budget so at least the board will be pleased.
I hope I’m reading this wrong but it appears that Jon Dawson has played his last game for Witton Albion. He has said goodbye and thanked everyone on twitter.
That’s sad if true Dawse gave it everything even when played out of position.
Emotions are running high at the mo and understably so. At a critical stage of the season we have taken 1 point out of the last 18. Today we have surrendered a 2 goal lead to a side below us in the table coupled with the fact that Marine produced a shock win at Blythe and grabbed that 4th from bottom place and resulting reprieve. Fans have seen this relegation coming for weeks and it has been blatantly obvious to all that the manager just wasn’t good enough. There are a lot of fans that will want to know why there wasn’t a change of manager when we still had time to turn it around. Matlock, Marine and Nantwich all took this step and guess what…all survived relegation. What is done is done and we have to move on however, I can understand fans frustration with the board at this time. We will be back UTA
So we’re down again, it’s not the end of the world, no one died, no babies were harmed, we lost to Stamford and a lot of other teams because our lot were not good enough. Next season we’ll play in a new league on a ground which we own (Not part of Thor Chemicals) backed by Top quality volunteers and a Board who will keep the club on a sound financial footing, not spending money we don’t have, to ensure the continuing future of Witton Albion. I for one will settle for that. Who knows we may even have a good season for a change.
Commiserations from across the great green divide. I understand the raw emotions at the moment, but I am sure you will like (most) other teams regroup and bounce back, if not at the first attempt.
It gives us a bit of extra incentive (not that we need it) to gain promotion next season - so we can be in the same division as you and properly establish who’s top dog!
I don’t expect you’ll even have the dubious pleasure of a couple of landlords v tenants games to look forward to, if as predicted you get put in the southern half of Div 1.
(I’ll leave the no doubt dreaded prospect of them getting up in the playoffs into a higher league than you to an uncommented bracket)
Just had a message from Jon, he is staying! It was just a sincere tweet thanking everyone for their support.
Gutted to see the result today. I have supported Witton for umm 4 years (moved from daaan saaath), but I feel for everyone at the club. I manage the Witton U11’s and we feel a lot of pride being associated to the Albs and my son often talks about the “rainy day” at FCUM on Boxing Day, where we sang great songs for err 10 minutes!
I have not been at many games - junior football takes priority on Saturday - but whatever division this club is in, I am a supporter…as will be my son and as many as the kids that play under the Witton team.
All you guys on this board and the team at Witton get a big thumbs up from me…for just being there.
Let’s do it next season…
