One of the diisapointing aspects of our play this season is the front two pairing of Ash and Shaun. They can’t seem to be an effective unit together yet on their own its seems to be a lot better in terms of chances being taken. The addition of Steve Foster a proven goalscorer makes sense to me especially as how its on loan. So if it don’t work out Steve can go back to Chorley. Saying that he caused Ferriby all kinds of problems in the 2nd half when he came on . I’m a little bit like WHS in I remember Steve playing that day for Telford but the reality is we need to win games and Steve up front will do that for you by scoring goals. Ok that might mean having to get rid of one of the other stikers to balance the books so be it. Its Witton Albion football club that counts players are transitional!! At the moment our current strike force does not work fact so anything that can be done to poep this up has to be good even if it means going back to sign on a former player.
This whole threads an embarrasment tbh (yes i know its a forum).
The guys a winner and I want winners at my football club. He’s guilty of winning a game for his previous team, primarily because of the stupidity of one of our players!
What is the problem? If he’d killed/abused someone then I can understand people or person taking the moral high ground-but this is ridiculous.
Good luck Fozzy!
The thread has run its course imo, some like him, some dont ! I wont not be watching the albs because Im not keen on him, I will cheer his goals and shout for the albs regardless, it wont be that long until he is replaced by a younger better model thats football. Albs will be here forever.
I keep seeing people calling this the "Friendly Club ". Anyone looking on the forum would see otherwise. What Fozzy did to us in the past is history, he is great at winding players up and waiting for them to retaliate ( as Chad stated). We need a "proven " goalscorer at this level and Fozzy is the forward we need. Welcome Fozzy, dont let the whingers get at you, the VAST majority of supporters welcome you for your goalscoring feats, let them long continue.
I was reading a newspaper cutting recently in the club shop from the early 90s. Mike McKenzie in this article discussed a group of ‘older’ supporters that stood on the Pop Side known as the ‘Grumblies’. Those supporters had recently been getting on the back of certain players. It just goes to show how moaning on here can effect team morale, so we need to be sensible. Clearly, there has always been a certain moaning element to our fanbase, as there is at every club. I think we should move on from this conversation now though, those complaining that we have signed last season’s top scorer in this league need to do some growing up.
Welcome back from me fozzy, just what the doctor ordered as far as i’m concerned.
This thread has made me think about the old grandad’s stand at the Central Ground. I remember nice sunny saturday afternoons, playing like brazil, 3-0 up and the grandads would still rather have a good old moan at the players, ref, linesman, margaret thatcher, the local vicar whoever rather than being happy! We are moaners but we’re “nice” moaners, its in our blood as wittoners .veryangry
Foster first played against Witton for several seasons for Radcliffe, largely uneventful with him getting kicked and giving it back in equal measures. He moved to Telford and this seems to be the start of the current issues raised on here, during the first full season of the JV panic springs. During the first half of the game Chris Gahgan was fouled by him, was picked up off the floor and had his nipple twisted, Chris reacted and struck him and got sent off. We lost the game one nil and subsequently a point would have seen us win the league. But that night we were poor, hardly created a chance and they scored a scrappy goal late on. I could be describing the final a few weeks later by which time the vast majority of the team had retreated fully into their shells and had nothing to give. To suggest this sending off and the part played by a player who signed for us a few seasons later and is now on loan is just sour grapes. That season we had 3 players sent off. All were against Telford and all were for violent conduct. Mose for an elbow , Chris for striking foster, Ian Kearney for violent conduct in the final. None of these individual sendings off had any bearing on the league outcome as the team had gone from February and the man in charge gave us more questions and answers.
The following season we missed out to Fleetwood Town as the spring jitters struck again with Foster playing now for them. No sendings off no issues with him, in fact our forum was full of comments of how we needed a player like him in our team after Fleetwood went up and we just collapsed again and then all the fun started. The manager and most of the team left in somewhat controversial circumstances which resulted in the soul of the club being destroyed and relegation and a stint in the poor south division occurred until the transfer back north. During our season in the south we made a number of big signings in an attempt to go back up first time of which one was Foster something everybody had always wanted or commented on in the past. A proven goalscorer and a winner. He stayed till march scoring 21 goals in 30 games I think. He was not on a contract and left to join a club nearer to home, not for more money, but because we were going nowhere and had to reduce the budget. The following season we transferred back up North and encountered Fozzie initially playing for Salford and later chorley. For those that remember he scored the winner for Salford against us and did not celebrate. I think I am right in saying he has played in 3 games since against us and no issues have occurred. Last season he was the leading scorer in the league and with tuck and Stott carrying the bulk of our workload up front he is a high quality top drawer addition that we would have been foolish to pass up on.
Now if people don’t like him because of the Telford game I seriously suggest you take your rose tints off because the reason we did not go up that season, the season after and the subsequent relegation after that all boils down to one man and that is not Steve Foster.
Equally not coming to games just hurts the club financially and is morally wrong as a fan so why not just do what CJ suggests? Or instead of publically criticising the decision why not just ask the management their thoughts as they have to be one of the most approachable in the league and would give you an explanation if you asked.Bottom line for me is we need goals and fosters record is second to none at this level of football and I wish him well.
Absolutely fantastic post.
I will ditto that LP.
Just wondering if you celebrated the first goal CJ?
Im in my 50th season watching WAFC and quite agree that the majorirty of old Wittoners are what JA says
Absolutely.

Here for the Grumblies, your only here for the grumblies…
Seriously I’ve heard 'em giving it "bloody ell he’s no bloody good, too small (big, fat, thin…) about players making thier debuts, before they’ve even kicked a ball for the Albs :stop
Remember going to watch United about 5 or 6 years ago and an old fella behind me said “Come on Ronaldo, you’re bloody shit”. Don’t think it’s exclusive to Witton
i notice whs is absent just lately from the forum :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap iwonder why. fozzie is a class act and is agreat addition to the squad. so just ignore the rantings of whs, who, i suspect could be suffering after his recent ridiculous outburts.let’s face it whs, pritch as ever has got it right and you have yet again got it wrong.
Yes I applauded as I said I would, but it does not change the fact I dont like him as a character he does not play football in the spirit I like to see it played which is I guess WHSs view, and no amount of pressure from the “internet trolls” on here will change that, WHS has chosen not to watch while he plays it seems which is sad, I will keep watching of course, im happy to ignore comments that are pro foster, now getting strangely odd !! i didnt realise that Foster was such a superstar I thought he was a decent player at our level who will do a job - better of course than Gaghan, Buchan etc who have left but please spare me from the over-hyped praise, he was ok last time he was here when he was younger and it didnt cause a blip when he left, you have your opinion and I will have mine- jesus fancy having an opinion on a forum what was I thinking.
And NO I try NOT to shout any players down from the terrace - most of the old moaners are no longer with us or dont watch anymore so dont give me that rubbish either.
Mike Mckenzie by the way in the main had a pretty rubbish team who near the end put little effort in - maybe that brought a few extra moans !! but there were a few fans that seemed only to come for a moan ! i dont see that now tbh
Whilst i appreciate what you’re saying here CJ, i do have to wonder what aspects of his character you don’t like, and also what elements of his game you don’t agree with? I have seen nothing in his current 1 and a half game spell that is any different to any other player.
Also in his last spell with us i didn’t see much (other than one reaction) that marks him down as being anything unsavoury.
I guess you’re going off isolated incidents when he was playing against us for Telford. So in total i’m thinking half a dozen possible incidents out of a career that has spanned hundreds of games.
Name one footballer who hasn’t had isolated incidents that blot their copy book?
Brian Pritchard, sent off in his second Witton game. Could have been the end of his Witton career judging by some of the opinions on here.
Mike Mosely has been sent off. David Beckham, the nation’s darling, sent off for kicking at France 98. Alan Sheaer kicked Neil Lennon back in the 90s.
Which player hasn’t made mistakes?
And as for Foster being a “decent player at our level who can do a job”? Have you seen his goals record at this level?!
He is a very good player at this level. Compare him to any other striker we currently have, and his record blows it out of the water at this level.
Add to that 2 promotions. How many of our “legends” can boast that record?
Top scorer and player of the season last year AT THIS LEVEL. Again, how many of our current or indeed past players can boast those accolades?
Moseley? No.
Titch? No.
Warlow? No.
So let’s put it into some context here.
We have signed a very good player who WILL score goals for us. The only negative is that some of our players have naively retaliated to some of his wind-up tactics, and some of us still hold that against him.
The truth is we know very little of his character, because none of us know him as a person. But i’m betting he’s a much nicer bloke than some of the guys that have been idolised at this club.
But like you say, you’re entitled to an opinion. Why let the facts get in the way of it hey
You know full well he has a long and deserved reputation as a niggly horrible wind up mechant even on Tuesday he was talked to for really hassling there keeper after a confromtation with the defender, he has done that all his career so its not isolated, he might be a great bloke of the pitch I dont know and dont care its what he does on the pitch I see and I dont like that sort of player whether its for us or aginst us its not how sport should be played imo, and from a football ability point of view id take Warlow, Mose and Titch over him every day of the week he would not even register on my list of Witton Greats - as for Pritch et al getting sent off so what nearly every player gets sent off but most of them are honest, play with there hearts on there sleeeve and Pritch was one the very best ever a true legend but not a horrible playeer I bet he was fairly well liked by most of his opponents. How many clubs has foster had that alone tells a story- he has just beeen released by Chorley hes that good !!! as i say decent maybe even good player and better than we had so for the team (and Pritch ) a good move but a very good player not in my book ? Maybe I am too Corinthian for you or maybe the Youngsters today have lower standards and values
Steve Foster is a " journeyman " and is not everybodies cup of tea but he has a lot of ability and always seems to do the job he is brought in for.
Well done CJ &WHS for your opinions - I was beginning to think that this website was becoming a propaganda machine !
Good luck tomorrow v Whitby.
