Cracking result tonight - still within our grasp - come on the Albion!
Great news. Too far away to comment on ‘the manager’ situation so can only comment on results - this was obviously a very good one. Let’s hope we can put a run together and get into the play-offs.
Best wishes to all.
Like everyone else I am “OVER THE MOON” with this win. The players all gave 100% and you cannot ask for more than that. I went away feeling totally elated but let’s keep things in perspective, yes the team gave a wonderful performance but we all know that Mickleover should have scored some of the sitters they missed. The great save was followed immediately by our second goal. So though I am happy with the win I think we should be wary of thinking “Job done”. The teams we have to play are nowhere near as good as Mickleover but they will be no pushover and the team will have to play with the same kind of intensity we saw tonight if we are to make the play offs. That said, we can do it, COME ON THE ALBS!!!
WHS.
PS. It was well worth the walk!!
A spirited performance against the league leaders and more like this and we would have been up there with them. From 1 to 11 the lads put in tremendous effort for 90+ minutes and this win was all about desire. Thoroughly deserved 3 points.
It’s difficult and to some degree inappropriate to single out individuals, but I will anyway! Baker was superb, brave when needed and his positioning was first class tonight. It was not a fluke he made as many saves as he did. Danny Warner (awarded sponsor’s MOM) was also superb, strong in the tackle and composed on the ball. Lamb ran his socks off, he looked shattered after an hour but continued for the duration. I thought McAllister, Heler, James and Morgan all had good games. Pritch neat and tidy (as we come to expect) although he had his hands full. Jones’ finish for the all important second goal was excellent, he skipped a challenge and then chipped over the keeper into the roof of the net.
We somehow picked up a large number of bookings, which was due to more inconsistency from the ref, how Powell got booked and the player that fouled Warner two minutes later didn’t get booked is a complete mystery to all but the ref. As we know they are not going to get any better at this level, however lack of consistency is still frustrating.
Good encouragement from the fans who spurred on the individual players and cheered on their individual and collective effort. That said, plenty of those posting for vocal encouragement could have helped by joining in!
Well done lads, the win puts us in a fragile play-off position, although those in the 3 places behind us all have a number of games in hand. Win both over the weekend and if results go our way it could be even healthier. Still plenty to play for, even if that means creeping back into 5th on the final day!

Tale of 2 keepers tonight - Mickleovers injured ? and went off and Jack Baker MOM.
3pts is all that matters at this stage so we need another 3 on friday against Market Drayton.
Many thanks to Neil for offering me a lift and to Chris for taking me home. (almost). The performance from the players was well worth all the effort to get to the game. Full marks to the manager too, he picked his team and stuck by it until the end, it would have been easy for him to push someone else on near the end, but this 11 desereved to finish what they started and he let them. (See, I don’t always moan about him!!)
WHS.
101% effort by all the players, most pleasing display for months.
I thought HOWARTH was outstanding. Must have been watching another game. :silly:
We must do something about the floodlights I was calling Jack, Chris all night
Absolutely buzzin after tonights performance!
Well done lads, 110% by each and every player.
Credit to Mickelover aswell as they are a good side and brought a good following.
MOM…cant decide between Peter Heler and Jack Baker.
Cant wait for Friday, lets have another performance like tonight.
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Excellent tonight boys. You could see from the terraces how much the players fought and worked together. Speaking of the terraces, a definite improvement with lots of positive encouragement. Although one ‘Wittoner’ threatened to spoil it in the first half. Lets hope the players get a boost from tonight’s win and play with the same determination on Friday against Market Drayton. Let’s just keep chipping away and fighting for the play off’s.
Come on Witton!
If your comment was about there being no spare ball, I am sorry but it was justified in my opinion, we are a SEMI-PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL CLUB and that sort of thing simply should not happen, I would have been annoyed if it had happened when I managed Sunday league teams; for God’s sake you cannot play withoput a ball, it’s a basic!!! However I would also like to say the ground staff worked a miracle to get the ground fit to play on, full marks to all involved.

Comment wasn’t aimed at you WHS. It was aimed at the same moaning get that mouths off every week to Finley
Just a great spirited battling performance every single player out there tonight deserves praise, a great team performance against a damn good Miclkeover side and to come away with a win was fantastic :cheer:
Very well done to everyone, some twonk did shout something about the manager in the second half, and if it was not a joke it was a disgrace!!
COME ON THE ALBS!!!

I dont think he had much choice, nobody else is fit!!!
The most pleasing aspect about tonight was the effort. I can cope with us being second best football-wise, as long as we can demonstrate the level of workrate and commitment that we saw tonight.
Let’s hope we can get anohter few wins now and build some momentum.
It was going to take an excellent team effort to win and that is exactly what we got.Special mention to Peter on keeping his cool,h ow he never planted that Sports midfielder on the station car park from that first half challenge is beyond me.
Morgan ,Lamb,Warner and James to name but a few were superb.
Mickleover are a very good team and along with Belper are my best two to have visited WP this season.
The manager showed his professionalism tonight against the back drop of Sports theatrical left back. The full back appeared to spend most of his time trying in vain to reduce our team to single figures.I do not mind gamesmanship but his performance was worth the entrance money alone.
This is only my view and no offence intended to any Wittoner who thinks differently, but i would rather have Gary than one half of Chasetowns lauded management duo,who conducted himself at WP in an appalling manner.
We win and lose with dignity on the pitch, but by all means kick and scream in the clandestine atmosphere of the changing rooms after the final whistle.
There are still plenty of points to squander and one team to buckle under the chase for the playoffs pressure.
Perhaps we will sneak in on the final day, perhaps we will finish runners-up.
Excellent performance. Every single player worked their socks off and it was a good example of ‘in your face football’. The desire to win the 50:50 balls was good to see and we perhaps deserved to score more goals.
Special mention to the ground staff who were still drying out the Lostock goalmouth when I arrived 5 mins before kick off. Well done fellas your hard work is noted and admired. For a pitch to host 2 league teams and look this good after all the snow etc is a tremendous achievement.
