Tony Sullivan is our new manager

Welcome!

Sounds like he was highly rated…this is a few months old…

Cammell Laird are backing Tony Sullivan to carry on managing at a higher level after playing their final game in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.

Sullivan took over at Lairds in November 2010 and left the club on Bank Holiday Monday after their 1-1 draw with Northwich Victoria.

The Wirral club, who are reforming at either Step 6 or Step 7 next season after resigning to resolve ownership issues, believe Sullivan will be quickly snapped up elsewhere after his success with them in often adverse circumstances.

Last season the 40-year-old won three manager of the month awards and guided Lairds to a second place finish in First Division North and within a whisker of promotion when they reached the play-off final and were beaten on penalties by Trafford.

Lairds Chairman Frank Games hopes the club will be back in the Evo-Stik NPL within a few years itself but believes Sullivan will be quickly reprieved and deserves a fresh challenge in the top levels of Non-League after the results he’s brought on limited resources.

Games said: "I know how hard Tony has worked for this club during my time as chairman. He is an ambitious guy who is more than capable of continuing his managerial career at this level or higher.

“He has done wonders here and I’m sure others will have taken note. All the Lairds family wish him well and will be following his progress.”

Know of him but not about him so no real opinion on him, to eay whether good or bad ! but good luck to him and I hope he can take us forward. UTA

Don’t know anything about him but hope he can steady the ship and turn things round for us. Welcome to Witton Tony and good luck

Disappointed to learn that Sheenz and albion legend Nige Deeley have left the club. Can’t thank them enough for their contributions to WAFC over the years. :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap

I understand Dave Andrews has also left today.

Well a new broom sweeps clean as they say so lets just hope this works out for everybody, im very saddened by the events of the last 2 months, first Pritch leaving and now no more Deeley, Sheehan and Dave and as many of us knew these guys personally its hard to believe they wont be around the club anymore.
I do wish Tony all the best and as our new manager he will get our support 100%, i would now expect 1 or 2 players to also be heading for the exits as Mark has said ‘expect changes’!

Very difficult to come to terms with really, from the shock of Pritch leaving then up to third despite a horrible start to the season then the shocking shambles of the last few games. Now the third manager of the season already Nige Deeley and the others going too I do hope so much that the new man steadies the ship and that we move on, not easy from here though!

It’s not a nice situation that we’re in at the minute. Sad to see nige and Dave go but maybe it’s time for a new era.
I’m sure the new gaffer will get everyone’s support and hopefully this is the start of something good.

Can understand sheens going but not nige best coach around club should of insisted he stayed and let’s hope if there are changes to the playing staff we manage to keep hold of our better players

I’m personally a lot less happy now that Nigel and Sheens have left the club, the new manager will have to really prove himself having made these decisions !

Apparently sheens trained with Nantwich last night and don’t know how true the whispers are but 1 or 2 of our better players aren’t happy about the situation at the club at the moment

Well maybe if one or two of our better players had performed to anything like their ability over recent weeks, then Sheenz, Nige and Dave would still be at the Club and they wouldn’t have anything to be unhappy about.

Its a new era, as as sad as i am to see some absolute legends leave the club this season, the club is bigger than any individual and must go on.

All I can say is welcome in regards to the new manager.

In regards to Nige I am disappointed he has left, we have sponsored him the last two seasons and will miss him in the dugout. As for Dave the goalkeeper coach was never sure why we were paying for a goalkeeper coach, not really necessary in my opinion.

But we move forward with Tony, let’s hope he can bring in some typical scousers who will fight for the cause for us UTA

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

I must agree with Robbo on this one, i too have heard a couple of players aren’t too happy with all the changes but they only have themselves to blame, they all wanted Sheenz to get the job and for a few games played their hearts out to make sure he got it and then as soon as their mate was in charge they suddenly seemed to forget how to play!
As ive said earlier i feel saddened by all the recent changes but time doesnt stand still so we all need to support the new Management team and trust in their decisions as Mark obviously does.

And we thought last year was turbulent ! Why can’t we just have a normal mid table season ? Not happy at all about the revolution I much prefer evolution buy hey ho as everyone else says we have to accept it and move on, may watch the ressies tomorrow at lostock ! Although Kings Lynn should be very interesting to say the least UTA

I have to say a lot of people are getting a lot of blame and a lot of long standing personnel are being turned over on the basis of 1 bad month. Is that the Witton way? More like the Levy way!!! I’m saddened by recent events at this football club and I’m not bringing it up for debate but since the Tuck thing, the vibe isn’t right I think that was handled badly. More recently the leaking of a budget cut/call it what you will and the threat to footballers we expect to perform that they will be out on their ear without so much as a by your leave just isn’t professional and was the major factor IMO in the debacle of out FA Cup defeat and the spiral that has occurred since then.

The board at Witton have rightly been lauded for keeping things tight and running the ship on an even keel - the reality is that isn’t totally the case - this football club has survived on the generosity of a number of individuals on a far too regular basis and without those individuals Titch wouldn’t have been here, the budget would have been cut in the promotion season and we wouldn’t have got promoted.

Equally we are now facing the backlash of a budget ‘adjustment’ that’s plain and simple bad management - are we really to believe that given the hope pre season with the squad that was allowed to be assembled by the board(and then added to with Josh Hancock) that within 4 weeks cuts had to be made?
So with thanks to Nige and Sheenz and Dave Andrews we move on - nothing in football lasts forever and I hope and wish the new manager every success and he sounds like a winner!

Welcome to Witton Tony

Andy chad bang . how can we put a squad together then all of a sudden have budget cuts thrown up makes you wonder if there is more to all the departures this season and if the board is holding back info from the fans all this stability talk does make me worry that there is more to all this than meets the eye

Just out of curiosity who is actually on the board at Witton?

Good question Johny, the directors are not listed on the official page just officials ! But I would guess it is quite small now hence the call for new directors so the ones I know are : Mark, Ian Dobson, Neil Wilson, Paul Worthington ? thena number of associates who help the club but not I think directors !
On the budget cuts I don’t think it was a cut exactly but getting the budget back on track to the agreed preseason level which had been allowed to be increased for a short period, however going out of the FA cup and a lack of a some promised income meant it had to be done quickly, Pritch resigned and Sheens had to handle this, he chose to let Sanna and Howard leave to set the budget right which was ok by me, except result wise it did not work out and the mess we are in. Blaming the board for the mgt leaving is a bit unfair Sheens resigned, the new mgr I guess wanted his own team in place hence Nigel leaving and I guess Dave went out of loyalty this normally happens with a new mgr. coming in the worst thing imo was allowing the budget cut rumour to become public news it should have been kept in the club or at least clearly stated what was happening.
