V Kendal

I’ll start. Good solid win against a stubborn Kendal team.

Referee played a part. Again. However other results have gone our way.

Good performances from Ben, Josh Hancock and Powelly.

We thoroughly deserved the win today but it was a bit scrappy. Thought that it was a great battling team performance today but the MOM for me was Gards, up and down the pitch all game and his delivery was excellent.

Ref was awful, but for a change the major decision of the match went our way cos I thought Plant was a gonna

OK it wasn`t the best game today, but I still think there was a lot of good things about todays game.
The result for one, a clean sheet, a number of players had a good game, etc…
Big Ben was awesome today! I can see scoring after one of his long runs

Ref was pathetic, as usual. Fortunately it went in our favour.

For 60 mintues I feared theyd get back in it, but the best team won.

If we’re gonna struggle past teams, im quite happy. Rushall next week is the big game. Win that and then maybe we can start discussing the play offs…

As daft as it may seem, I think Rushall Olympics was our easiest game of the season.

By far the best referee I’ve seen this season, he had a blinder :pinch: :cheer:

We were good value for the three points today, Kendal were however one of the poorest teams I’ve seen this season but you still have to beat what’s in front of you. Would also like to add brilliantly observed minutes silence as usual by our fantastic fans. UTA

And a big well done to Tuck again, who showed 100% as he always does.

A deserved three points keeps us right in the play off mixer. In truth Kendal weren’t up to much but as someone above said “you can only play whats in front of you”. Not sure how our keeper didn’t get sent off but at least some decisions go our way!!! Have we found a new penalty taker??? :goal I didn’t hear the attendance given out but according to the Evo Stick web site it was 370 which wasn’t bad. SBL

Another 3 points keeps the run going nicely. Only ever going to be one winner as Kendal were a committed but poor side. Little disappointed with 370 att we’re on a good run and would have expected over 400. Might be because we’ve played a lot of games recently or people might be saving up to go away for Easter. Also thought the crowd was a little subdued as we’ve been fairly loud at home recently. A few good performances as have already been mentioned, just like to add josh Horne to that list thought he did very well after coming on at HT. Great work nige keep these exciting youngsters coming through.

UTA

Decent win against, in my opinion, is the worst side I’ve seen this season.

We weren’t at our best, but the three points is all that matters at this stage.

I have to say I’m also disappointed with the attendance. All season we’ve had 400+ through the gate, although I appreciate there was minimal away fans today, why the sudden drop over the last couple of weeks? (408 last week was boosted by around 50 Worksop fans). Surely you’d think that stading on the cusp of back-to-back play-off qualifications, we’d be pushing 500?

Strange town we live in.

Agreed left pegger but whilst we can always mae excuses 5 home game on the spin is alot for some people and I think the Kendal game was probably the least attractice of the 5.
Hardly a classic but 3 points.
On the non penalty decision, i was fortunate to bum into the ref after the game who said the player was going down before contact was made (or thats his interpretation) in which case it would be a good decision. The majority of wittoners were 100 or so yards away so I’d say he had a better view but I didnt even see it so cant comment!

Fair point.

Not sure about this though… :woohoo:

Can somebody be a new penalty taker if they have taken pens in the past?
Not a great game, but clearly had it in the tank to go up a few gears if required. Personally didn’t think plant or sheens were a pen, but the raised hands in the box was a very good shout turned down. But points are points and you can only beat what is in front of you, which we did comfortably in the end.
I can accept money is tight etc but hednesford 500+ gate, Worksop a hundred went missing, Kendal 370. 7 pts from 9, pushing hard for a play off berth it is a concern. I know away support and the junior teams not being present yesterday had an impact on the gate massively but one of those missing factors should have been addressed yesterday.

Totally agreed with the choice of Man of the Match yesterday, Powell controlled the midfield all through the game and some of his passing was top draw. In many ways his performance put me in mind of a midfielder we had a few years ago now as there are a number of similarities - Allan MacNeill.

Re the gates and junior teams do the parents pay to come in or are they just included in the gate?

With 5 home Saturdays on the bounce, yesterday would have been the only one without a junior side attending.

Next week was supposed to be V*cs Under 9s but I have asked them to come on the 30th instead, when they will be joined by Sheenz’ under 9s team from the Wirral, and play two 40 minute friendlies against each other on the training pitch from noon. So hopefully that will add 40-50 to the attendance.

Hopefully next week we wont need a junior team to bump the attendance as it’s families for a fiver and happy hour guinness

Re Redfan’s question im sure Neil will correct me if im wrong but the kids get in free and the kids, parents and coaches are all included in the attendance. So when we are pulling in 400 plus and 20 odd are kids who came for free, gate receipts reflect that. But obviously the aim is to hook them into the club. For those that don’t know all the junior teams that come get to go into the dressing room pre game and have a chat to the team and manager and often play their regular Saturday game on the training pitch, so credit has to go to everyone at the club who takes time out to allow and accomodate this.

The game reminded a lot of last season, when we frequently had nothing to beat, went through a period of struggle but ultimately drew away comfortably. It’s not easy against sides with little ambition, they just sit back and ask questions, which we eventually answered. Some solid performances, and a couple of poor ones by our boys, I thought. Plant’s save in the 2nd half was terrific, I was right behind that shot. One day we will see Ben beat 4 men and score !!

And just to be contrary, I thought the officials, as a team, had a very sound game. I’d be interested to hear what GE thinks. Pritch and Mike certainly didn’t have many complaints. And if Fozzy continues to drift offside he can only expect flags to go up…

The parent’s pay concession rates and all parent’s and kid’s are included in the att.

kendal were poor yesterday it was just one long ball after another. A far cry from the team that beat us in the f.a cup but when a huge club like northwich comes knocking you can’t blame them for jumping ship can you?

OK Ron Moy - my views…

From my angle on the far side from the incident it was a stone-wall penalty & red card for Stuart. The body language of players can be key for referees in these incidents and our goalkeeper and surrounding defenders clearly demonstrated with their body language that it was a pen & sending off. The Assistant Referee, however, didn’t support the referee by putting his flag across his chest and had his flag in his left hand which perhaps persuaded the referee to give the free kick to Witton and caution the player for diving.

The discussion afterwards with the match assessor will have been interesting.

Our penalty - well despite Club Shop’s view that it wasn’t, you couldn’t fault the referee’s position to see the foul on Sheehan and when you’re on top of an incident like that you don’t need to convince anyone.

The Kendal shout for a penalty just before our third goal wasn’t handball as it clearly hit our defender on the chest.

However, comments that the referee was ‘crap again’ are getting tiresome. When players are ‘crap again’ we don’t go slagging them off. The referee gives what he sees at the time. The best referees in the country make mistakes, as players do, and that is what makes the game of football an entertaining sport.

We have supporters at our club who don’t come to games because the referee ‘will be crap again’. Unbelievable.
