Delighted to say they lost the Evostick cup final today 1-0 to Ashton at the glorious Wincham Park
In my ever so 'umble (and possibly controversial) view, it would be more diplomatic to congratulate Ashton, rather than to glorify the slippery green ones demise! :S
Was down today stewarding. In fairness to Ashton, they should have bene out of sight inside the first 20 minutes.
Only ever one team in it.
Agree with Robbo if thats the standard of football being served up across the canal its no wonder the fans are deserting quicker than rats off a sinking ship. Apart from the keeper that is, was impressed with him he kept Ashton out on his own for most of the game. I was quite amused by Their Chairmans behaviour though - talk about throwing the toys out of the pram, was a good laugh apart from the language in front of kids.
I dont do diplomacy for them lot ! they who call our home a swamp - secretly I wonder how many of them are envious of a proper non league ground that is finished paid for and owned by the club and above all is suitable for the level of football we both play at now with gates of 300 ish at both clubs ! 99% I reckon, there is however no doubt the VS is flexible though it can be a white elephant and a millstone whenever required !!!
cmon the albs
Looking at this with another view I know we are considered the 2nd club round Vale Royal after VICS but who would you rather back for the future?
Would you prefer a club that has always been run beyond its financial means that does not own any assets and have to find rent before they even start to think about paying players staff etc!!
OR
Would you prefer to support a club which cuts its financial cloth accordingly, that owns it own assets including a ground that visiting teams think is fantastic, with a dedicated band of volunteers and a chairman who works hard to ensure the club keeps going!!
Lets face it at the moment anyway round here we are in the driving seat to become the number 1 club if we get it right in terms of on the playing side next season. If our two lads Macca and Pritch can get us up there in the top 5 after half a dozen games and keep us there for the run in early 2012 then I can see us getting gates of 300 plus. We also need a run in one of the cup competitions to generate even more interest.
As for Vics things can only get worse. They have to find rent money before they even kick off. They own absolutely nothing and there is now unrest amongst even the hardiest of fans over there. Gates are dropping and it seems likely that the manager will leave in the summer. Who in their right mind would want to play for a team where you might not and in all probility not get paid!!
I think with the financial situation reality might actually creep into some levels of non league football and players might prefer playing for a club like Witton which has good facilities, is run well, and ok might get less money but at least you know you’ll get paid. Also a good fan base for a Div 1 club who will idolise you if you play well!!
Onward and Upward- gotta be a winner playing for and supporting our great club.
According to the Guardian website, Vics are “hosting” a friendly between Valencia and a Romanian side.
Should that not read that the Administrators are hosting said teams!?
well posts on the V*** website saying they are very close to buying the ground ? whats that you say again !!! and even if someone is buying it - it does not mean it will be for the future benefit of the club eg if investors are involved and I supect they will be, then they will want a return, how does the club do that and pay there way and survive I just cannot see it ? not that i care to be honest only in the respect that i want Witton to be the superior or only club in the town.
I agree with every word CJ. The only club in town preferably.

According to a well informed source Jim Rushe has put a total of £860,000 into Vics since he has been at the club and is putting in £3,000 a week even now. He is keen to do a groundshare with Witton, probably because he knows Vics are heading for oblivion if they stay at the Marston Arena. Should we help them to survive? My answer to that question is a big resounding “NO”, exactly what they would say to us if the roles were reversed.

I personally would not be too quick to say no.
I would want to listen to their proposals first.
If it meant that we were the Landlords and they were the tenants, and as such, the rent would allow us to double our playing budget, and also allow us to start clearing some of our long standing debt, THEN I FEEL IT IS WORTH CONSIDERING.
I am sure with an arrangement such as this, we would quickly become the top club in town, and eventually lead us to being the only team in town.
Vics have an ugly habit of surviving, I don’t think we should help them do it again; all they did was laugh when we nearly went to the wall a few years ago, now the laughs on them.

" I personally would not be too quick to say no." quotes TT
At last somebody with their head out of the sand, talking sense and with an eye on the future !
Who said anything about helping them out!
I believe that by ground sharing with them (so long as it is on our terms), this would help with the demise of Vics, whilst at the same time, making us stronger.
Never mentioned helping them out TT - totally agree with what u say !
If it can be an earner for Witton then it makes perfect sense. Any revenue stream is vital.
I presume they would have to pay by cash or bank transfer in advance.
No cleared funds = no play.
Perhaps they would be obliged to pay a bond up front.
JR’s money is as good as anyone’s as long as it’s in our coffers.
From what I have been told unless they have purchased the ground by the start of the season ,league rules state they will not be allowed to play there and will have to find somewhere else to host games.
There is no mention on V**s Website on this more they are talking of work on the ground and being near to buying there ground - of course Rushe may be conning them and he may be struggling to carry on ? we really dont know. If they are looking to move i dont care if they share with us but only as tenants ! and it has to be on out terms, with guaranteed payment for a fixed term, up front payment say 1-3 months in adavance to prevent him defaulting, where does Rushe get his money from £860k is a lot of money to waste ? what business is he in. Im feeling ill actually agreeing with Eli ?
I agree with TT and with the Dodger, but upfront dollar is essential. Financially it would make sense for Witton although I suspect there might have to be a hint of green and white paint here and there (but not to much).SBL
