Looking forward to tonight, lets hope its as good a game as saturday with the same result good money in it if we keep going, believe they have Andy Kinsey up front for them, decent hold up man and physical presence be good to see how hes playing nowadays.
Fingers crossed for a good result tonight. All the best to those who are getting themselves down there. Come on Witton!!!
noticed brackley play fa cup replay on monday so might have minds on bigger fish if we get through tonight. :clap
1 up hancock :goal
1-1 ht .veryangry
Lost 2-1 the difference a clinical forward who put some effort in. Take note Nev
There was more than one player that didn’t cover themselves in glory tonight - overall, a pretty brainless performance, particularly in the second half. It felt like an endless sequence of back pass to goalie, hoof upfield, straight to one of theirs, back under pressure. Had our moments in first half, but never looked like scoring in the second. Very disappointing.
Same Old Same Old, build you up, money on the table, then a toothless, heartless inept performance like that…the club could of so done with that money.
Witton team:
Matt Cooper, Alistair Brown, Cliff Moyo, Ben Harrison, Marc Joseph, Jonathan Breeze, Josh Hancock, Michael Powell, Kyle Wilson, Neville Thompson, Danny Andrews.
Subs: Jon Dawson, Matty Purcell, Michael Moseley, Anthony Gardner, Stuart Plant.
very disappointing, second half we were totally inept. why hoof the ball up field when we have no one that can head the ball, and why let coops take free kicks, his kicking is, to put it mildly, awful. come on you guys you can play football if you would only play on the deck, instead of trying to reach the moon with your passes.it was nice to see gards back in action. that is the only positive thing to come from this game, except for josh’s freekick resulting in us taking the lead. we now just have to pick ourselves up and compete in the upcoming games to try and win back witton fans that are feeling flat after tonights performance.
Very poor last night. You can take defeat if u know the players have give it 100% but there was a total lack of effort from all concerned.
Agree with all the posts. I was sure I spotted their keeper reading the paper and having a ciggie in the 2nd half. A few suggestions for improvement:
- Don’t start slowly - sometimes we get away with it and end up the stronger in the 2nd half as the other team run out of steam - last night it didn’t
- Encourage midfielders to look forward and pass forward initially, if you pass back you lose all momentum
- Try not to play TWO slow strikers in tandem, if you can
- Don’t blame the fans for not getting behind the team. Unless you’re weird like FCUM you don’t sing when you’re losing. It has to come from the team and then we will respond. We’re in a financial hole, as most teams are, and what is our reward for shelling out money to watch the Albs? Two cup performances against Ashton and Leek that basically THROW AWAY thousands because of lack of effort and guile.
Rant ends…
Agree with a lot of what’s been said already, however I don’t agree that there was a lack of effort out there, didn’t see anyone shirking and I though Nev ran his taters off!
Also I thought we started strongly
I do agree with the lack of guile though, second half we were inept and the formation at tmes looked like 4-2-4!!! with the resultant and inevitable long ball tactic. Some poor decision making out there but we’ve gone 7 unbeaten and we were playing a team who aren’t that many places below us at present so it was hardly a massive shock or giant killing, and we just have to move on,
Credit to Leek as well thought they played well the No.6 Hill sat in and dictated the game for them, how bad was the wall for the free kick btw!
UTA
Another positive for me last night was Danny Andrews who never stopped working for the team and was always a threat when running at the defence. To me, he has been our most consistent performer so far this season, rather unlucky also to receive a yellow card late in the game which if I’m not mistaken will now mean a one match suspension.
In my experience players have off days at all levels of football but I can honestly say I have never known a footballer not to try. They may look like they are not trying at times but mostly that is frustration at their own performance. Brian Pritchard is a damn good manager who has now put together a reasonably settled team and the idea he would put up with a lack of effort from ANY player is an insult to a man who knows more about football than any of us on here. My rant is over, I will now go back into my cage.
WHS.
It wasn’t lack of effort in my opinion, we started very well and scored a great goal from Josh’s free kick but needed the second goal which didn’t come. Leek’s equaliser came at the right time for them, just on half time and the game seemed to change from then onwards. The second half was poor from our point of view and got progressively worse until the last ten or fifteen minutes where we were trying frantically to salvage a draw without really causing them too many problems.
Point taken Wheels and Andy. I suppose what i really meant by lack of effort was the endless passing back in order that high balls are pumped up aimlessly. I din’t mean to suggest that the players weren’t trying, just that in strategic terms their efforts were wasted. I hope that expresses my disappointment in a less negative manner.
I left feeling that they had outworked and outtackled us so the view of us not trying was valid to a point, Nev may have run his socks off ( First half maybe ) but with no end result because both our strikers are a bit soft they rarely put a tackle in and dont win any headers for big lads and go to ground far to easily, for srue they are not a pairing that works they are both capable of decent spells and games but its not consistent at all and for me both could be improved on, it was great to see gards back but who will he replace ? and we really miss Sheehan who will dictate our better short game and tempo, they were not a great side it was our lack of quality and fight in the second half that cost us the matchbecause first half we were the better team, there is no way of dressing that up imo, our squad is threadbare we needed to change the game and had no one to make a difference, powell was subbed i guess because he was in danger of being sent of but i would have taken wilson off put josh up front and pushed brown forward adding a bit of pace to our forward threat and risked powell - we needed a goal to save the game afterall.
Rant over - fed up- dissapointed in a cup result again move on hopefully UTA
People talk of how threadbare the squad is but that is down to the budget. We’ve seen it too often over the last few seasons where the management team have been forced to release players because they simply can’t afford them (Stott and Foster are two examples).
It’s a difficult situation because if the fans don’t come, the budget can’t be raised which means the squad is thin. This club needs money, simple, there is loads going on aside from football which is aimed to raise cash for the club and some of it goes largely unsupported.
I know the club is always asking for more from the fans in terms of financing things however that’s non league football. There are some great things going on at the club, some of which is behind the scenes however the bottom line is if we want Witton to have a squad that can challenge for the play offs, the money needs to come in. That means people getting down and coming to things like the race night or having a go at the golden goal etc. only then will the management team get the budget they need and deserve to fight for where the club should be. Believe me I know the budgets of some other clubs and there is a gulf emerging. There is a demand for players which means the better ones can almost name their price in the north west.
We’ve still got the good run in the league, a league cup and 2 county cups to compete for. Yes the FA trophy money would have been nice but we are out so we move on and start again. Let’s be fair nobody had us beating FCUM in the last round!!!
We can only speculate at the effort that must have been exerted by our centre-forwards in unsuccessfully attempting to compete in the air with that well-known colossus of a centre-half that is Paul Donnelly (why oh why did we ever let him go?!).
To also expect them to run when chasing the game in the second half is undoubtedly asking too much.
