I don’t really understand what the debate is here?
It wouldn’t have mattered if the manager was sully, pritch or jose mourinho, if a player threatens physical violence against a fellow member of the dressing room then he has no place in that dressing room. The BOARD agree with that so have enforced what they deem suitable sanctions.
We kick off in less than 3 hours for a game that we need to win. Forget about gardener and get behind whoever it is that takes his place.
Alex Ferguson once threw a boot at a player Beckam and cut him did United sack him ? Did they hell - they sorted it out internally and both manager and player stayed, Riise and Bellamy is another example there have been many examples of internal fights & face offs etc over many years and they end up being sorted out why not in this case I believe no one was actually hit ? We all have our opinions and views you have yours I have mine I will be at Trafford and be behind the players and hope we stay up, you won’t convince me that we have dealt with this well at all a complete over reaction by the club and manager.
How is it an over reaction by the manager? Once again this was a BOARD decision.
And you’re referencing how noodle called this from the outset. I suspect i know who noodle is, put it this way he seems to talk a lot about gards in his posts and knows a lot about everything about gards…
Don’t be naive, the manager has driven this, if he wanted it sorted and low key it could and would have been, yes the board will announce it and sanction it but if the Manager input was to act in this way then that’s what the board will do, it’s not hard to tell if Noodle is Gards admin can do it easily, but it doesn’t change the circumstances and the outcome, it’s boring now off to Trafford to see our new striker ! 3-2-5 anyone.
well i might as well put my 2 penneth in.i think if anyone goes it should be sully, what actually has he done for our team since he arrived we are no better or no worse so he’s done nothing.i also think the chairman needs to think about our club rather than being a goody goody yes man as the league chairman.as some have already said this could’ve been nipped in the bud behind closed doors but i feel this could be the first nail in our relegation coffin
Agree with Robbo on this, It was a Board decision, so why not vent your anger at Mark and the Board for following the Witton code of conduct.(if we don’t stick to it why bother having it). I don’t know what went on, I left the club at 5:30 on Saturday after speaking to Gards who seemed to me to be in a good mood and happy with the win over Ramsbottom. Only those involved know who did what to who and when it happened.
As for the manager, Sully may not be everyones cup of tea but I have found him very approachable and willing to discuss any issues about Witton you may have( you may not agree but you’ll get an answer). A few weeks ago he did say that all the players that have left Witton have made that decision themselves and have not been forced out( baring Scot).
Mark , Sully and Neil are always on hand to discuss Wittons code of conduct and any issues you may have so why not ask them about why they have come to this decision, you may find out the truth or you may hear something that you don’t want to hear.
we all rant and rave sometimes in the heat of the moment ( not saying thats a bad thing) and sometimes our anger is vented in the wrong direction or at the wrong person … at the end of the day we will still turn up and hope for that win… I for one will not be giving up supporting MY team of the Last 50 years WAFC UTA
It was only a board decision because the management raised it to board level and they then supported the manager, in my opinion The mgt should have sorted it out with the club captain and very needed player to punish him in this way punishes the club, Gards will be snapped up to our detriment. Yes of course some of us will carry on supporting the club but if we carry on losing good players and signing rubbish many will not ! Moyo, Gards et al chose to leave to inferior clubs ? I wonder why !
In fairness to Sullivan we had a quick chat with as the teams were coming back out at half time, and he said that he was devastated with the whole situation and honestly I believe him, he obviously couldn’t got into details but he did say that when it all comes out that we will all see it in a different light. He is unproven at this level but I think we can’t judge him until the season finshes, but don’t get me wrong we are deep in trouble
I hear what you say Johny but even if the Gards situation was dealt with differently and was not an issue are we any better than when he took over ? Because no one I spoke to at Trafford had anything positive to say and were not impressed in the least, I know he’s enthusiastic and a good talker but the evidence, actions and performances suggest he is struggling with this level.
I don’t think we are anywhere near good enough at the minute, but we have been poor for two seasons now, I hate to see us like this but I really don’t know what we need to do to get back to the standard we should be?
It really is shocking about this Gards situation…we NEEDED ANTHONY GARDNER to try and stay up and IF we do go down now it is the whole and sole responsibility of the board. Sulllivan may well be struggling at this high and exaulted level but those wanting him out would do well to remember that ManU fans wanted Fergie out before they went on a 25 year ride of success as he a. was saved by a Mark Robbins goal in the cup and b. LEARNT AS HE WENT ALONG AT THE HIGHER LEVEL!!!
The main talking point today was the solidarity shown by the players when we opened the scoring by running over to the manager to give him a hug. It’s time the players played for the fans for without them we wouldn’t have a club.
When we played Matlock (in which we were awful) & had we won ( ) we’d have been 10 points in front of them. So what happens - Matlock, with their new manager, with added impetus win & win & win.
Marine - eventually - afford to pay off their manager & get a new one & guess what, they get a win today.
What do we get - to keep this clueless manager (who is such a nice chap). His players indiscipline goes before him. Whatever happened involving Anthony Gardner seems to have been Gards’ fault but there’s usually no smoke without fire.
If we go down I doubt he’ll get the chance to stay so might the answer be to change now before the increasingly inevitable relegation happens.
We are simply not good enough under this manager. If we are to have any chance of survival we need to change now. If we don’t I can only think that the club are happy to drop down a league to a standard at which our current manager is comfortable.
He does seem a nice guy and very enthusiastic which is great and what you want at your club and despite all that’s gone on I would like him to pull it round and prove me wrong- but and it’s a big but he has made some very strange decisions, lost some good players, signed lots of poor players and simply has not improved us one jot in his tenure, like Johny I’m unsure what we do next at this point in time, we may get safe or be reprieved but do we stick with the manager for another season ? Or see if we can attract someone like Liam Watson we probably can’t afford him though ! One for the board to ponder on.
As an outsider I have zero knowledge of what’s happened but it’s pretty clear club finances are stretched . A Machevalian view would be that another contracted and presumably one of the bigger earners, has played right into the hands of the money men .
Just a thought
No I don’t think that’s the case at all, Gards has had an altercation with the mgt team resulting in some threats made that’s as much as is being told, don’t think Gards is open to apology and I don’t know why and this has then involved the board who have carried out the punishment, for me a fine and a written warning should have been enough if it could not be sorted by mgt first but the over reaction of suspension fine and transfer list effectively sacks Gards, I am only saying what I understand from bits of the story from several people there may be a bit more yet to come out but frankly I don’t care now the damage is done to the club and team.
Managing is a pretty thankless task, especially on a low budget. It can drive you mad. I will never forget poor Pritch at the end of his last game - which we won - screaming at the officials over a bleedin’ throw-in! That’s what it does to you. I must admit to finding some of the vitriol directed at the manager a bit baffling. Of course he makes mistakes, if he was a better manager he wouldn’t be here, but at a bigger club. I would throw more criticism at the players. A manager can gee them up, send them out in a positive state, but once they are on that pitch it is largely DOWN TO THEM. Just because you can sack a manager and not sack a team doesn’t mean that the buck always stops with Sully.
The day that someone convinces me that it’s directly down to the manager that Powell keeps getting booked and suspended, or that Corbett gives away stupid free kicks, or Rainford over-elaborates outside the box, or Andrews can’t do much with his right foot is the day that I will start slagging off the manager, until then he has my support, as do the board and the team.
