Where do we go from here?

Well still devastated! But where do we go from here?

Personally think we need an experienced manager who has been around non league and who can attract quality players. So that rules out Heathcote and Macauley.

Will we go North or South? Both are much tougher divisions than when we were last here.

Agreed that we need a manager with experience and I might also suggest, that we need someone who has had a past association with the club who knows what the club means to people and who also knows how the club works. I haven’t got anyone in mind particularly at the moment but someone who can work within the constraints of the budget which the club sets.

Next season will be testing for everyone and we all know that there is likely to be a clear out of players because all managers have their own ideas. It won’t be easy for us and also you’ve got the added problem that visiting support will be smaller in most cases,

The one thing that might work in our favour though is that playing at the league below must surely see a drop in the admission prices. Paying £10 to see the football that has been on show this season, is the biggest factor as to why people won’t turn up.

We have to restore the heart sand soul of the club which has been ripped out and discarded by the last nmanagement team. Nige deeley needs to be brought back a man who loves our club and knows what is expected.

I’ve driven up and down the country today thinking about this, and concluded the same. Can we get Nige Deeley back??

Would be great but as ever the new manager would have to want him as coach and managers usually bring their own man in but would be good, no suggestions from anyone for the manager post ?

No idea if he’d want it but if I was on the board I’d do my upmost to get Nigel Deeley back and give him a free reign as to who he would want alongside him. Not only does he love the club as much as any of us but he has a great youth policy, connections and knows the club inside out. He might not be the “front man” long term but he should be given a go to at least get us back on track imo.

For me i want someone who has won a promotion. Heard Neil Young applied when Pritch left. Weather he’d still be interested now we’ve gone down I’m not so sure.

Sorry for the ignorance but who is Neil Young? Any association with this club previously?

The ex Chester manager took them from Evo stik div 1 North to conference premier. Obviously we couldn’t generate a budget like Chester, but he can spot a good player.

Sounds a good shout but like you suggest probably too much of a step down for him and would want a decent budget.

I personally would like to see a manager with no previous connections with the club. Neil Young would be a very good shout but in any case we need a manager with character, experience and the desire and hunger to succeed. He should get a half decent budget with the rental income from them in green. Whoever the club chooses for their manager it cannot be rushed it has to be right this time round.

Would love to see Nige back in coaching capacity, but not as manager. It didn’t work out for him last time, and to be honest i doubt very much he would want to do it. But the club would be a better place with him here.

I would go for the same guy we should have appointed in September - Neil Young.

The money we saved by going for the cheaper option in Sully is probably nothing compared to the money we will now lose by getting relegated.

We shouldn’t even wait to find out if he applies, we should go and approach him immediately.

Yep, no point waiting until after the goldrush.

Think we are gonna have to wait and see what division we are in before any manager is going to take on the job, I don’t think there will be many takers if we fall in the South, and where do our finances from Vics’ ground share money be spent now? Because Harris said that non was to be invested on the team/management, if we want to attract the likes of Young etc we need to pay the money! Not as confident as some that we will have the pick of managers

You don’t know if you don’t ask!

And as for waiting to establish what league we are in…by the time that is sorted it might be too late.

The North Ferriby situation MIGHT muddy the waters somewhat yet too.

Unless things have changed Neil Youngs personal demands according to people close to the club were way above what we could afford, he is still not in a job so maybe he would be willing to discuss but I would think he is a big budget manager so not sure ! but other than him no one jumps out.

Neil Young and Muddy Waters in the same thread - father will be drooling!

Which contract players does the new manager inherit? Luke Clark?, Danny Andrews?, John Shaw?, Anthony Gardner?, Alex Titchiner? And are those on contract gonna be taking a pay drop now? Will they even want to stay?

Two of my favourites too Chad pity we can’t get Neil after the goldrush as a board member money these rock stars earn woohoo!!
We now seriously need to consider over the next 3 weeks the new manager and get him in place before the end of May as thats when most good managers do their work. Longer term we need to look at the board room and structure of the club as some of the decision making over the last 18 months has been flawed!! I highlight the following in the worst season we’ve had in my 58 years -:

  1. Collosus leaves with season only weeks old -Not a lot we could do but lets hope he comes back when he’s ready in a less demanding role if he wants to sad to think we’ve lost a great guy altogether here…
  2. Appoint a manager with no experience from within which is ok but then publicly tell him and the players he has to reduce the wage bill cumulating in the worst ever Witton performance at Runcorn in the FA cup.
  3. Appoint the cheapest manager and do nothing when the wheels start coming off. Should have gone after the Stourbridge away game. There were signs then he could not manage Henders left, Then the Guards affair again in public domain but should have been managed in the dressing room. Ben Harrison left when he always seemed to love the club!!
  4. As been pointed out other clubs changed managers we did’nt so we’ve gone down they’ve stayed up although thin line between success and failure looking at final table.
We need to learn from this and realise that cheapest is not always the best option. Neil Young would be good but probably to expensive has to be a happy medium. Don’t really want Traffords ex manager one of the other candidates at the time. One name to consider is Andy Morrison lives locally good coach and free at the moment. Also like the work done at Bamber Bridge proably on a lot cheaper budget than vivs, Salford, and Droylesden.
So it is difficult at the moment I hope Mark can also reinforce the board with some suitable people. I’m not really a great admirer of someone who keeps bragging about what they are going to do it proably means they’ll do nothing as was the case with Sullivan and the person i’m thinking of is one of the new guys around the board!!
I hope I can motivate myself to watch next season even if we are in div1 south!!

Agree with most of what you say here, especially your point about the Runcorn game. Everything that went wrong this season can be traced directly back to the build up to that fixture.

The only 2 things i would highlight are that Ben was looking away from Witton before this season (missing 2 deadlines to sign over the summer and then only agreeing non-contract terms suggests his commitment to the Club was not what he had once been), and that the Gards situation was only made public by ‘Noodle’ rather than anybody connected to the Club. I think everybody would agree that it could and should have been handled better though.
