TWSfooty, I don’t think so. Any incoming Chairman and new board members must be driven by the existing board, shareholders and supporters to ensure we do not return to the dark days. We must continue to run the club along the guidelines of the previous incumbent. It might be painful, but I for one would rather watch Witton in the Unibond than not watch them at all!

And JV had to operate on more of a shoestring than most of the managers in the top half of the Unibond last season. Which puts the fantastic job he did into perspective.
What a crazy couple of weeks for you guys! There are some really good veiws on this topic but the ones which stand out the most to me, all state that its time to move on and look to the future. The manager has gone and the chairman the chances of one of them changing their mind is minute, the chances of both of them changing their minds is nill. I would like to give you my thoughts as an outsider. Take a look at what you have got, you have your own (superb) facillities and a good fan base who will support your team through thick and thin. You are playing at a very good level and your club is ambitious enough to want to better that. There does seem to be a lot of argueing comming from within some of these posts and I think peoples energy could be better spent than argueing with fellow supporters who ultimately share the same goals. Thats somthing that has happened (and still does on Runcorns unofficial site) with my team and look where we ended up. Whilst you have all the above mentioned positives in your favour, the future isnt so bleak and with a bit of hard work and energy channeled in the right way…who knows where it could take you.
Good luck for the future, and I hope our teams cross paths again in the near future, both playing at a higher level.
Thanks for the encouragement RLFC, best of luck to you also.
Paul Worthington tells me that he is carrying on as Financila Director, one piece of good news.
I wish the Board well in finding a succesor to Mike, he brought me to the Club ten years ago and it was a pleasure to work alongside him for the years I was on the board at the club. He taught me many things about business and I will always be grateful for that.
Mike will be a hard act to follow, committed, dedicated so many attributes which he brought to the Club. Of course it wasn’t all plain sailing, but Mike was always there to ensure that the club remained on an even kiel.
It is good news that a new Commercial Director is coming to the club working alongside Sam as Commercial Manager, Mike and I had many discussions and occasional disagreement about the way forward, I believe the most successful time the Club had was when Pritch was Commecial Manager. Hopefully the new guys can bring back that level of income.
I wish Mike well in his retirement, I know he will still have a keen eye on the club, I would say that it is a shame that he decided to call it a day given the circumstances, knowing him I do not believe he would have stood down without his replacement being in place if all the problems hadn’t come up in the past week or so.
But the Club has to move on and I look forward to hearing about the new faces and hopefully new money which would take the club on. I apologise if I have upset anyone, but I do still feel that Mike got a little too much stick from certain quarters.
I will certainly try and help Mark Harris if I can in anyway and hopefully the club can make another challenge next season.
This situation is so bloody silly now its beginning to get to me. Quite simply Mark Harris is an affable and approachable guy who I’ve always found easy to talk to and who is intelligent and not without business acumen himself. What I’m saying in short is forget whats gone on and get behind Mark. He’ll need help and support so lets give it him and move the club forward.
Having suffered a bereavement Mike is not going to be as focused on football clubs anyway. I’d like to think after a short period of contemplation he’ll be back in some capacity with us maybe in a consultancy role. Fingers crossed.
On the Jim front I like the lad immensly. If he comes back all well and good he’ll get my support and from many others I’m sure. If we are going for a fresh face then we need to get this sorted within the next few days. I know who I’d like if this is the case but getting him would be difficult as he’s just taken his team to promotion to our league!! Whatever though we need to move quickly as most managers are out an about recruiting at this stage. People like Liam Watson to name but one, don’t sit on their backsides they get their team for next season sorted before May is out!!
Great news about Paul “Worthie” there is continuity there as well as proven expertise!
Well done to Rob S here as well this was a more positive post from you and again I know you are a Wittoner at heart and respect your views even if I don’t always agree with you!! There again I’m not always right either but on this I know I am “Focus on what we can do going forward forget who was right or wrong or who said what thats done with”
No need to look for Chairman and Manager - there are loads of them posting on here every day.
2 great posts Mona and Rob.
I agree with you both, and we do indeed need to look forward, and see if we can help in anyway. Great news on Paul Worthington…I don’t think I have ever met him, or if I have, I didn’t realise who he was. Hopefully he can call on his family connections for odd bits of advice now and then.
Paul,
We will have to be introduced sometime. I was the Treasurer of WAFC for 7 seasons before you father came to the club. I’m sure we’ll find something to talk about!
It’s all gone very quiet out there!
Has everybody gone on holiday! I’m not used to this, compared with the last 10 days.
When Mark took over, it was stated that lot’s of thinks would happen in the next 48hours.
It’s now been 60hours, and we hav’nt heard a dicky bird. Even WHS seems to have gone quiet.
Does anybody have any news or know about any coming announcements? I’d have thought we would have had to have something in place before Saturday, for when the players come to pick up there final wage packets for the season???
Fully agree with you Jeff. The club aren’t required to keep us up to date but at the moment we are completely in the dark. I just hope that whoever they are in discussions with that the deal is right with regards to budget, terms etc for the club and the potential manager. We have a great set of players here, lets make the right decisions now to keep them
Just to update you all with the current scenario.
I spoke at 2:15 with Mark Harris. He related to me where he and his fellow directors were up to, primarily concerning 3 main issues.
At that time he still needed further consultation before any official club statement could be issued. However this I expected to receive sometime today.
I know that Mark was very committed to his main line of business today and therefore it may well have been difficult for him to finalise the Witton Albion issues.
Particular as regards to the actual playing budget due to an unforeseen development.
PLEASE GO TO GENERAL SECTION TO READ UPDATE FROM MARK
cheers for the update hopwfully we will find something out soon then!
Thats cleared it up for me!
I am sure that the directors are working as hard as they can to bring everyting to a satisfactory conclusion and that all will be revealed as soon as they can make it happen.
A bit belatedly - but a big thanks to Mike Worthington for all that he did. The sunken ship analogy will go down in Albion history. For what its worth - I think what he did as stepping down as chairman was a hugely selfless act in keeping with the way he ran the club. It cleared the way forward without any rancour and has enabled people to make decisions in the best interests of WAFC - as he would have wished. Hope that makes sense!
Onto the future. We have learned enough and have the scars to prove this isn’t an easy life. We need to step up another gear as a club - on and off the pitch. If we do that we will come through and we will have our moment in the spotlight. But its the deeds on the pitch that count above all else and we need to mike the right choices for the right reasons. Jim needs to come back and prove the doubters wrong, his supporters right and all who really love this club that we can be winners again!
Did Jim re-sign as manager, or did he just recind his resignation?
I ask the question in view of the players contracts. I believe most of them had a clause that if Jim went, then they also could go.
How do their contracts stand now? The fact that Jim went, albeit he is now back, does that make them all free agents?
Does it make a difference to their contracts, if Jim has just recinded his resignation?
All the players are retained, whether Jim stayed or not.
GE
Hi Graham,
Great to have you back. Hope you had a great holiday. It’s nice to have somebody back after these 2 weeks of turmoil, who hopefully can give some official guidance on many of the subjects raised.
