Winsford v Witton ?

You turn some reserves out tonight guys ? ???..or did you underestimate Winsford ?

Trueblue.

7 first teamers were rested, you did however deserve the victory.

Ok Neil…no probs couldn’t get tonight…and although a Utd supported realise Witton have a good squad and are playing well m8,I wish them well…apart from when they play us …Hi !
Was it a good game ?

Barry.

We can’t have it both ways. Either we commit to this competition or we don’t. I personally agree that we concentrate on the main task of getting out of the Unibond. And as we all know we probably lose money by staying in this competition. Please don’t let anyone refer to it as "Tin Pot" either, as this is an insult to the Winsford players, who by all accounts richly deserved their win.

Disappointing for those attending? Yes, but then hopefully JV would have given a clue as to the strength of team he put out. And also, I’m sure he would (ala Ferguson) expect the team he put out "to do the job".

So, it’s a quandary for the manager. Let’s all try to understand his predicament.

At he end of the day, as long as we have a fully fit squad for Saturday, that surely is best for WAFC.

All I can say is that I’m glad I only paid the £6 admission price.

Not a good night in the office. I thought we liked a bit of our usual cut and thrust, which is understandable given the number of changes. I’m not sure too many of the fringe players made an impact, with the exception of Kyle Wilson.

Oh hum.

The season starts on Saturday! Reality is that only the forward games are of importance and not the past ones!!!

We need to put into context the missing list last night;

Kennedy
Coo
Brownhill
Lloyd
MacPherson
Peers
Warlow
(Brown)

Eight of our best players were absent!!

A concern that we conceded 5 (having only let in 10 in 18 league games), but again Barras is a bit away from being match fit. Pritch was not 100% last night. Neither Tom or Ian are full backs in my opinion.

Wood and Wilson both had a run out (and needed it). If the opportunity arose to put Dillon out on loan (with Brownie coming back and Wood’s arrival) then I think it might be a good move for the player and club, he needs to play more competitive games to bring him on but is not ready for our side just yet.

We cannot afford a couple of below par performances to harm our confidence and approach to games, we have a 7 point lead at the top and with three consecutive away games and the close proximity of the 22nd, 26th, 29th and 1st (4 in 10 days) matches - Christmas is an important point of the season.

Those who come out firing in the New Year will have a strong position and the momentum. Blips need to be temporary!!

Let’s get behind the lads on Saturday and play Worksop off the park!

We haven’t got many opportunitys (if any) the give the ‘fringe’ players a run out, we have Fleetwood just behind us in the league so we can’t afford any slip ups, to be fair on Jim he has stated a couple of times he would be using the league cup and the mid cheshire as a chance to rotate and rest players so I don’t believe there were any surprises.

As agreed with most of the fans on here I think in the long run this will be a good thing meaning we have to play one less game which could be the difference between going up or staying in the Unibond again.
By all accounts Winsford played well and were the better team on the night so we can’t have any arguments. But surley this competition would have more success played in pre-season when people want to come and watch to see the new signings in action and managers want to put out a strong team to get players fit and ready.
If it was played as the last game of pre-season and as expected you had a Witton vs Vics final then I am sure you would get 700ish and the winner gets a nice little confidence boost before the start of the new season much like the charity shield winners.

Very very disappointing last night. Not because we’re out of the Mid Cheshire Cup, not because Winsford are a few leagues below, not beacause we were 3 -1 up and cruising, and not even because we got beat! The manner in which some players went about the 2nd half was embarrassing, I know it was only the Mid Cheshire Cup but every player should still be giving 100% when they pull on that shirt. The players don’t need naming but we all know who put the effort in and who didn’t…

As i said at the time the minute V@cs withdrew from the competition that should have been our cue to do likewise.

A number of players should be embarrassed by their efforts last night.

I’ll name, names aside from Pritch, Kearney and Thornley noone put enough effort in last night. The key word being EFFORT. Players have bad games and some aren’t technically as good as others but what I look for in every player is EFFORT.

To put the game into context though it doesn’t make a 5h1ts worth of difference to our season.

Worksop on Saturday for 3 points and that’ll do nicely!

Who scored last night by the way? and what was the team?

Ellison, Kearney, Skelton, Pritchard, Barras, Spearitt, Wood, Dillon, Rutter, Thornley, Wilson

Brodie, Gill (not used), Drohan (not used)

Goals - Wilson 2, Thornley

Wilson 2 (1 pen) and Thornley.

Interesting comments from you Witton guys, its always good to see a local derby and in many ways I miss the old Cheshire league days where the old triangle of Winsford,Witton and Northwich was a brilliant affair.
My late mother was a one eyed Vics fan,my Uncle was a Wittoner and as I live near to Winsford’s ground I watched them…great situation and really humorous at times…anyway good luck with your ventures this season and your good league run.

Barry…bring it on I say !!! Hi

and just from guess work from the rest of the comments am i to presume we were 3-1 up at half time and lost it 5-3?

2-1 at half time, and 3 - 1 up very early in the second half.
We were 2 nil up inside 15 minutes of the game

To be fair there werent that many suprises in the team - everyone who went to Colwyn Bay knew it would be a mixed team - I’m sure Curzon will be the same on Jan 5th.

Lets be honest - Winsford beat the team we put out, it was disappointing but I’d have been playing hell if a first teamer ended up injured or with a 35day cheshire FA ban!

It was embarrassing and to make matters worse there was a report on the game on Cheshire FM this morning. Nice people by the way 92.5FM. The most exiting part of the game was GE’s half-time draw.
We need to be out of this competition unless as stated it is held pre-season. One of our players who did not play last night informed me some of the older players are feeling tired so why are we playing this competition at this time of the season. When we went 3-1 up we had enough experienced and 1st team defenders to have practised holding on to a good lead ( something we might have to do in some games during the rest of the season ).

Might see u at Worksop ?

Witton_Scad m8 thats what happens when you let up against Winsford…after a while in the wilderness at last they are looking good for the league they are in after the agony of the last few years !
Would have been interesting if Witton had put their best out as Winsford are capable of lifting their game when against good opposition,no delusions I think Witton would have won…they are obviously a very good all round squad as the present league position shows.
But still one for me to tell the grand children about when we had Witton at home !!! Hi wish Derek Cook from Weaverham was still alive…one eyed Wittoner my mothers cousin…would have defo give him ear ache ???

Cheers Barry. …All the best saturday…will keep an eye on your result.

Spot on Scad.

I think the job your manager has done is extremly good Barry, expecially when you consider the number of new faces he has brought in. Particularly throught your midfield did well last night. Of course you had a few absent also, notably Miranda and Mason (who I would have thought are your main frontmen).

If not for your bad home form at the start of the season I think you would be up in the top three or four. Given that our wage budget is 4 or 5 times higher than yours you would never have been able to tell in the second half.

As stated we were without many of our big players and the 9 home wins from 9 in the league is an indication of how well we have been playing in the league. There may have been a bit of us making you look good last night but frankly I would take nothing away from your performance, you wanted to win more and your approach to the game was first class.

Hope you carry on to do well this season, hopefully we’ll both meet V*** in the next few years on their way down!!!
