The manager was brought in to save us from relegation last season, failed and was rewarded with a 2 year contract. He now has 3 home games and an away game at Glapwell to give us an outside chance of getting out of this league with his leading goalscorer and captain missing some if not all of them. No pressure!
Like your optimism RS65 but we are not the form team at the minute.
I hate the ‘Finley took us down’ argument. Yes we could have stayed up at the end (and that would only have been on a technicality), BUT we were cut adrift at the BOTTOM of the table when he came in. We LOST 10 games on the run (that isn’t 10 without a win, it’s 10 straight DEFEATS). Gary did very very well to turn the tide. He brought battlers into the team, and we fought our way into contention to finish 4th bottom - had the original Whitby fixture not been postponed then i feel we would have survived.
The irony now is that we are trying to play more football, but at the expense of having that fighting spirit that you normally associate with a Gary Finley team. I think if we had a few more fighters in the squad then we would have a better chance. Ruffer, Henry, and Foster probably fit the bill. Others disappear when the going gets tough (a bit like a JV side…).
I’m not saying i agree with giving out 2 year contracts, but it’s unfair to blame Gary for taking us down. He was the man in charge at the end, but he didn’t put us into that position.
Eli, you are a moaning git at times. My dad just about pips you though!
