On what should have been a great day with all the legends down at wincham park, Witton contrived to put in one of the worst displays I have seen - against a not very good lancaster, we created little, didnt work hard enough lacked pace only 4 -5 players come out with any credit, defence was all over the place second half, midfield were over run and didnt really compete and wingers did nothing apart from that we were ok ?, hopefully a bad day at the office - I know again, but in my heart of hearts we are at least 5 -6 good players short to challenge next season, need another centre back, a midfielder, 2 wingers and 2 strikers, apart from the result I enjoyed the day though well done to all involved in organising the legends - maybe a few should have played today :cheer:
but in my heart of hearts we are at least 5 -6 good players short to challenge next season, need another centre back, a midfielder, 2 wingers and 2 strikers.
Ben Harrison, Macca, Botham, Titch - theres four of the six if we can get Titch back.
Agreed though poor performance today, one player did say “well its end of season” and was promptly bollocked by one director who pointed out that people had still payed to come and watch which I liked!
Legends was brilliant loved seeing some great players again and was nice to see all the players wearing black armbands for Dave, I hope everyone will turn out on Monday for the true Witton greats funeral.
I know we had good players missing today when I said we need 5 -6 players I meant on top of them so that the squad is better and deeper you cannot win a league title with only a good 11, the only ones that I really think are good/fit enough for next season are :
Cooper, kearns, Ben, maquire, macca, frosty, would also keep matt woods, gardener, botham, add titch and another 5-6 good players as suggested and ill be happy, but if we dont I will still watch em every week and enjoy it managing from the sideline ha aha I do know its not as simple as I make it sound so good luck macca and pritch, im sure we are in good hands.
Are you saying the local lads you have been so vocal about that the club should be introducing in the past aren’t good enough? Sullivan, Ennis, Harrison (winger), Hancock etc?
No im not saying that specifically they are ok so far and may be good enough given time, but not sure we will get promoted if they are in the 1st 11 every week but I hope they do come good the only oustanding local has been Ben Harrison imo.
It did have an end of season feel about it today.Frosty must be very frustrated tonight because he could easily have scored a brace of goals today, denied by a good keeper who made half a dozen good saves during the game.I thought Carl had a very good game, only thing missing was a goal.
Nice to see Matt Wooley come on to add to the growing local talent.
This season has been great because we have not paid lip service to last summers vision,it is actually working. As they say in Spain,we will die with our boots on,in other words we are true to our beliefs.
Shocking result ! Well I was shocked when I saw the score ! Maybe Lancaster gained an advantage by playing on wednesday in the cup final on our pitch ?
Yes it was end of season, it was for lancaster as well ? if we had a player saying it doesnt matter it was end of season then get rid of him he has the wrong attitude, another point in the programme it said Macca and Pritch were joint managers ? I hope not because that never works one needs to be in absolute charge and then have good cop bad cop routine 2 nice guys wont work one needs to be able to dish out rollicking if not both on occasions, not sure which id prefer in full control, maybe pritch will retire from playing then he would be good choice with Macca still playing and still one of our best players but I think Macca wants to be a manager so not an easy one, As long as they are both happy and committed then we will be ok but only one in charge imo.
If ANY player did actually say that in the Club after the game, then they should either a) publicly apologise, or b) never play for Witton again.
In regards to the playing squad, i don’t think our budget will allow for 15 or 16 top quality players…i think we need to accept that we will be working with 6 or 7 good players and then filling in with players who are competent (some of these being young hungry local players).
We are never likely to be favorites for the league, but we need to be in amongst the 10 or so teams hoping for a play off place.
