Witton Albion v. Shildon AFC(Emirates FA Challenge Cup First Qualifying Round)

Witton look to progress to the next stage of the Emirates FA Challenge Cup on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Northern League First Division Shildon AFC in the First Qualifying Round.

The draw has been kind to Ben Harrison and the team so far as they get to play at home for the third successive game in the competition.

Shildon progressed to this stage following a replay against fellow Northern Leaguers Birtley Town which they won 5-2 after a 2-2 draw.

They currently sit fourth in the Northern League First Division table following their latest league victory at Northallerton Town on Tuesday night.

The Railwaymen as they are known, are still to play a league game at home having won three and drawn the other two of their games so far all away.

The two clubs have never met before but teams from the North East are renowned for being tough opponents and Shildon will prove no different.

Witton’s last two league games saw them pick up four points from two very tough fixtures so they will go into the game in confident mood without underestimating the opposition.

Last season saw Witton progress to the third qualifying round before they came up against a very strong Macclesfield team so they will be looking to continue in this season’s competition at least a bit further.

The financial incentives are also very important to the clubs at the lower end of the pyramid, but the main thing is to hopefully get through one game at a time.

Kick off at the U Lock It Stadium is 3pm.

We would like to thank our matchball sponsor Robert Flavell for his support and hope he has an enjoyable afternoon with us.

Can’t beat an FA cup game, free scoring Shildon up next just hope we have a full squad but assume Ben and Jones will be missing and Kerr probably Cup-tied.

So likely team based on form maybe

Terry
Baillie, Ebhote, Langley, Bembo-Leta, Fleming
Edwards, Hamman
Brazel
Garbutt, Hoyle

Good luck lads. UTA

Yes, Kerr is cup tied.

Yes looks like could be a tough game for us, but we don’t know what standard their league is,

With enough effort from the players we can win this game.

Good luck lads. :+1:

Has anybody heard how long Jones will be out of action?

They’ve played five league games all away from home - won 3 drawn 2.
