Witton Albion v. Vauxhall Motors

Witton face another tough test on Saturday afternoon when they welcome play-off chasing Vauxhall Motors in a Northern Premier League West Division fixture.

The Motormen are currently fifth in the table and have won their last three games so will be looking to continue that run.

Games against the top teams seem to have brought the best out of Ben Harrison’s team, and they will have been encouraged by certain aspects of the performance against another play off challenger in Avro last weekend despite the result.

The game is the third meeting between the two teams this season, the reverse fixture at the VanEupen Arena saw the points shared in a 1-1 draw.

Harry Brazel’s excellent free-kick equalising for the Albion after prolific striker Nick Rushton had given the Motormen the lead.

A matter of days later, the two clashed again in the Cheshire Senior Cup again at the VanEupen Arena and Motors secured their place in the next round with a 2-0 win.

Results in midweek have seen Witton slip to fourteenth in the table but they will be hoping to start another winning run but it will not be an easy game.

There are likely to be a number of familiar faces on view with the Vauxhall Motors squad including at least four who have also worn the red and white stripes of the Albion.

Goalkeeper Calvin Hare is joined by winger Jawad Jebrin and striker Kyle Sambor in the Motors squad but they have also added Jeanny Akpo from Warrington Rylands in recent days.

They also have the experience of Kevin Ellison who seems to be getting better in his later years and that will be invaluable to the younger players.

Witton have also added to their squad this week with the signing of experienced defender Matt Cook from North West Counties Premier Division Cheadle Town.

Witton will be hoping that the forwards can find their goalscoring boots although goals from other sources are vitally important.
