Witton Albion vs. Kidsgrove Athletic

Team News

The only change to the team that defeated Grantham on Saturday sees Steve Hall return to the starting line-up, replacing Peter Heler, who moves to the bench. Stuart Rudd’s suspension for a red card at the South Kesteven does not kick in yet, and so he continues alongside Brian Pritchard whilst club captain Paul Booth recovers from the injury sustained against Leek Town.

Starting XI: J. Clegg; D. Adams, S. Rudd, B. Pritchard, L. Neville; B. Maylett, P. Henry, S. Hall, J. Tandy; S. Foster, M. Moseley.

Substitutes: A. Hadzik, P. Booth, P. Heler, S. Brodie.

Great result - well done everyone and yes, thanks for the updates - really appreciated.

Onwards and upwards - come on the Albion!

Anybody know what the attendance was tonight?

How did the other results go? The Unibond League is a bit slow in updating our Division… :frowning:

We are top of the league!

We nearly threw that one away!

Great opening goal from Paul Henry, a good lesson in how to strike a ball if ever there was one! Shocking tackle on Maylett for their sending off, gave the ref no alternative, it was two-footed and off the ground. Brad was lucky to get up!

As is often the case we made it look harder playing against 10 men than 11! Their keeper made a couple of good saves, in particular from a Rudd header and Tandy shot! Witton should have put the game beyond Kidsgrove, 1-0 is rarely enough. When they scored on 86 minutes it looked like we had turned 3 deserved points into just 1.

It says a lot for the character of the side that they turned on the pressure looking for the winner. Henry’s curling shot/cross went towards Foster who turned his body as the ball went round him, which was enough to fool the keeper and the ball went straight in. Certainly didn’t look like Foster got a touch and although he ran off in celebration it was Henry’s goal.

Our performance warranted all three points, but it was a lesson if ever needed that one goal is seldom enough! The win puts us top on goal difference although we have played more games. Leek appear to have hit a bad patch (or reverted to normal), whichever way you want to look at it!

Hope Mose is fit for Saturday, he seemed to pull something when stretching to reach a ball.

Seaside here we come!
