Witton v Cammell Laird

i dont believe Burke is an improvement on Coyne. Everybody on here dare not criticise the management team so f**k it I will. Because everyones picking on the players. And the people responsible for these results and poor performances are the management team. Tactics have been all wrong and we dont close opposition in centre midfield, the manager plays wide players that dont get used. The manager needs 2 get them working on fitness. We all like Nige but we dont need to tip toe round him

The thing that worried me when Nigel was first appointed was that he simply wouldn’t have contacts to bring players in. I believe that Nelson was brought in to fill this role but in my opinion hasn’t brought people in with desired standard for this level.

Nigel is a fantastic coach which many different players past and present have verified. But being a coach is totally different to being a manager so maybe it’s time to look at the job roles I don’t believe Andy Nelson is bringing anything of use to the club so am sorry but I think it may be time to say goodbye to him.
In turn I would make Nigel HEAD COACH concentrating totally on tactics, picking the team etc etc with a Director of Football eg Paul Ogden, Steve Waywell or dare I say Benny Phillips who have lots of contacts and would just be responsible for recruitment and scouting of players.

It works at Nantwich and various other clubs around the country so why not here.

I think we really need to change something soon and give Nigel the most help we can. There is only so many ‘off’ games we can have and if we don’t start picking up points soon then we will be very much in a relegation scrap even at this early stage and I do really fear if we did get relegated that would be the end for our great club.

Whats happened to all the support we were going to give Nigel when he accepted the job. Its only the first week in October and your all bailing out already !!!

Support him and the team to get through this!

I have honestly never heard anything so ridiculous. Why would it be the end?? Is there no standard of football below the Unibond Prem?!

Leeds, Wrexham, Luton, Barnsley, Swindon, Notts Forest, and closer to home Winsford, have all slipped down the leagues - but they go on. The reason they go on is that if the support remains then so does the Club.

If we’re playing infront of 50 people in the North West Counties, it will still be Witton Albion. Relegation is NOT the end. The end comes when the fans give up - and i ain’t planning on doing that any time soon.

The cup runneth over my friend but Wittoner I remain forever.

yazzy 97, 3 hour drive on my own 2 gateshead. Having 2 lie my way out of work 2 burn it up the m56 2 make last nites game. Sitting thru 90 mins, (yes i stayed for 90 mins) of embarrasment on saturday whilst i had brought friends 2 see witton for the 1st time to show off the team i bore them about all the time. We have shown nothing but support!

To be fair we are struggling to cover overheads in this league getting 2-300 people a match what would it be like in a league below only getting 100 or so fans that’s a lot less people to put in the fund, less sponsorship, less pie and bar sales etc.
You mention Winsford Robbo and ok they have had some recent success but are still languishing in the North-West Counties in front of 90 fans and this from a previous very successful North-West non-league club I really don’t want that for Witton.

I am trying not to be negative here but simply looking for a practical way that we can help Nigel suceed and keep us in the league rather than just the usual ‘keep the faith’ message that appears after the recent defeats.

I can understand the frustrations of many, I haven’t been to as many games this season as I would have liked, I’ve got enough to worry about for the next few months, but whatever the performance to call for Nigel’s head or say he isn’t good enough at this stage is frankly disgusting.
Lets take a step back and remember where we were in the summer. No Chairman, No manager and 2 players. We have come a bloody long way in 2 MONTHS!!! That is the time that we have given Nigel. It’s taken some of you 8/9 weeks to make your minds up. That is outrageous. Have some respect for a man who is a Witton legend and get behind his team. You can judge the man after the last game of the season, but in my opinion considering where he started from (lets remember he was sh*t on by JV too) he has worked miracles in the past few weeks to make sure that we have a team to watch!!! So the least you could do is offer a little support and appreciate what he HAS achieved, rather than expect the world.

Rant over.

and thats just me yazzy, a regular fan. What about people like neil, eli and robbo etc, guys who go far and beyond the call of duty for the club. After every game every1 says keep the faith it will work out. Do we have to wait till we are relegated to say, we deserve better.

Don’t think anyone has said Nigel needs to go have they? All I would like to see is Nigel concentrate on the things he is excellent at i.e coaching and improving players.

No doubt we need Nige at the club but as an assistant manager he would be stronger i feel than a manager. In every Witton fans heart they believe he is the right man 4 the managers job, but can you all really and truly say your head says the same. Your head has to rule your heart in footy. I personally believe however at this moment in time Nige has earnt our patience and we should give him a few months more at least to see where he can take us. But his assistant needs to go NOW!! And yes we have a team to watch. But do we have a team that are all hungry and passionate about playing for the club? I know at least 10 of u that left early on Saturday didnt think so.

Well said Greenie, totally agree !

In the league below we would cut our cloth accordingly. Still not seeing how the Club fails to exist??

Well that’s a real shame. I don’t want it either, but if it’s where we end up then i’ll be swapping my away days at FCUM for a tasty away day at Blackpool Mechanics. I still don’t see where the Club fails to exist though??

Well saying OUR club ends if we get relegated sounds pretty damn negative to me!!!

The practical ways of helping are joining the 200 club, contributing to the Development Fund, supporting the social events where possible, thinking of some fund raising schemes yourself, and most importantly remaining a Witton supporter no matter what. We don’t put conditions on our support - we don’t just forget Witton if we get relegated.

And that means titty bars!!!

The performance was shocking last night. No passion, no comitment and no urgency. The players need to step up for the fans for the club and for their manager. They are letting Nige down at the moment. They are better than their current league position and they need to start showing it. some players have been outstanding. Greg Smith for example has made endless great saves to keep us in games. Tomo who has scored some good goals and Thacker has done well. The rest of the team need to step up and lets hope they do starting on Saturday.

I have to agree that Steve Smith has to do something to improve his performance, i thought the amount of effort he seemed to put in seemed to be as though he didn’t actually want to be playing on the pitch, if he is going to be playing more matches he needs to at the very least start putting more effort into the matches he plays in.

As for the comment saying that they fear it could be the end of Witton if we get relegated, that is a load of rubbbish. Getting relegated would be very bad yes, but it wouldn’t be the end of the club as we have loyal supporters who are willing to stand by the team through thick or thin and most of this has been proved in the recent months. The only way it will be the end of the club is if people start being overly negative and stop coming and showing their support.

Yes we have had quite a bad start to the season, but it doesn’t mean that Deeley’s position as manager needs to be scrutinized by our supporters! We’re meant to be supporting him and the team and by implying he shouldn’t be the manager anymore isn’t (in my books) supporting the manager, so stop trying to imply Deeley should be ‘demoted’ to assistant manager and start showing some appraisaly for the things he is getting right with the team (how ever few they are).

We all knew it was going to be a tough season, and anyone who was expecting to be contenders for the league winners were quite frankly being rather stupid. Every supporter knew we wouldn’t be doing the best so stop being so negative about the situation and at least if you want to moan then wait until we are further into the season!

Im sure we will be able to turn it around and start to maintain/gain places in the table soon(ish), just keep thinking we can do this and continually coming and watchin the team play after all ever person’s support is vital to a team like us.

Sorry about that, but i felt it was something that i needed to say

Lets generally leave the relagation talk out of it for a bit folks, we were in the same position before JD took over and before under Peter Ward some time ago and I dont remember people talking like this then.

A shake up of the team is whats required in my opinion, 2 new signings yesterday is hopefully a start. I’m not expecting miracles from them but some have had their chance and not taken it.

We move on.

Awful performance by the team yesterday, against a very ordinary team. I did say pre-season I would be delighted by 20 points by November - maybe we over achieved early season. Thompson, Smith (Greg not Steve) and Thacker were the only ones who emerged with any credit.

Greenie - your backing for Nige is admirable, but it would really help Nige’s and the clubs cause if you actually attended a home game!!!
That way your £9 could help fund Nigel’s team.(I presume by the lack of a reply that you are unable to make a contribution to the Development Fund as pledged?!?)

Far too many people who were regulars at away games last year can’t even be bothered to turn up at home games, and that my friends is the start of a downward spiral.

Boys I have been watching Witton on and off since 1953 and I have " done " and " said " and " seen " everything that u are posting on here and the club has still survived and will survive as long there are passionate Witton supporters like yourselves. Past experience has taught me that when u get a decent, hardworking and genuine football man like Nige u have got to back him and ALL his staff to the hilt and trust him to do the job.

Thats what " Keep the faith " means IMO

Its not quite panic stations yet but its obvious after I’ve only watched two games that we -:
Lack passion.
We are not fit!
The players don’t seem together as a team.
The work rate is not good enough (Cammel Lairds won last night because they worked harder than us and previously they’d not won away).
Yes its very commendable to support Nigel and he is a great guy and a talented coach who I would want to remain at the club.
The truth of the matter is though that the current situation cannot be allowed to continue. Gates now down to just above the 200 mark!! Its ok saying give us time but to be honest if we sink too far down the league its going to be hard to avoid the drop later.
OK its a little strong to say that relegation would mean the end of the club but it would be a REAL disaster and can be avoided by taking some action now. There are a lot of posts on here about vics being bottom of the league but the truth is we are not much better ourselves.
Pritch cares because he was really gutted at scoring an own goal afterwards in the club. He didn’t lose us the game the team did because they couldn’t keep up with Lairds work rate. Not enough of the other players care enough like Pritch and you can see who they are on the pitch.
This is where a good manager sorts out the problem areas and moves those not doing it on. I believe we may well have let one player go yesterday who was with us before a step in the right direction.Others also need to be moved on just as soon as we’ve got replacements in who might give us more effort at least. I understand Nige is trying to resolve the issues and I know will be working very hard to try and turn this round. Its made more difficult with a lower budget but thats where an experienced manager might do a little better. I’m sorry to say it but past track records of both our management team show little signs of having any sort of success and indeed seems to be a record of being down at the bottom.
The cold reality is that there are people out there who could help some not expensive some who would want paying a lot but I hope our chairman is keeping tabs on the current situation and viewing it for what it is Football is an entertainment and business and as such sentiment has to be thrown out of the window. I don’t want our club to be known as one that sacks our managers all the time but neither do I want us to go down. I really do feel for Nigel a guy I like but lets try and get some experienced help to take some of the weight off him so he can concentrate on coaching and improving the one or two promising players we do have!!
You can all have a go at me now but I’m trying to be fair in my assesment here. So those of you with rose tinted spectacles on feel free to have a go at me as I know you will!!
