Witton v Cammell Laird

Firstly great news that the game is ON!!! A few games gone already today so credit to all those who have worked hard to get the pitch ready.

Hopefully bumper crowd at the HfH today for the ‘Family Fun Day’.

Team news coming soon.

Team news:
Cooper, Gardner, Wood, Harrison.B, Booth, Ennion, Hancock, Sheehan, Buchan, Titchiner, Andrews
Subs, Woolley, Schofield, Glover, Gahgan (new signing), Moseley

Still 0-0 very little in way of chances

Still 0-0, appears the away teams tactics are to slow the game down and not let us string any passes together by either hoofing it forward or falling over

Half time 0-0

Witton 0-1 Cammell Laird Steve Ferigan after a spell of Laird pressure led to three corners. The centre half got his head to it and put it passed Cooper

1-1 Chris Gaghen on his return to the club. Only been on the pitch 2 minutes

Witton 1 - 2 Cammell Laird, sub Paul Cliff after Mark Stewart ran clear to have his shot blocked by Matt Wood on the line

Full time Albion 1-2 Cammell Laird

I don’t believe it!!! We did it again!!! Big gate, bottom team, we lose!!
WHS.

Couldn’t believe the score! Are we flattering to deceive?

No, it is just the “Witton way”, get everyone excited, get a big gate then play crap!! We will probably win at Curzon!!
WHS.

Not sure if it is true but I was told that Lairds had “borrowed” four players from Tranmere Rovers for this game. (What makes it worse is Vics won in the FA Trophy!)
WHS.

What makes it worse is that our direct rivals in the league won.

We were very poor. To be honest it was unacceptable and the players owe a performance now next week.

This team has received a lot of praise for the battling qualities they show when their backs are against the wall. Well today we were second best to Lairds in that respect, and the outcome was we came away with nothing.

We can’t keep wasting chances expecting more to come along, and we certainly can’t keep defending corners the way we have been.

This is potentially a great team. But if you want promotion you can only afford a handful of days like today. After the Clitheroe game and this afternoon we can’t afford too many more.

Let’s get back on track next weekend.

UTA.

Cannot agree we did not “Battle” as you put it. I thought Lairds were quick in midfield and cut down the supply to our forwards, we missed some chances, it happens but let’s not get despondent, teams have bad days, this was one of ours. But I still feel we got 100% from the players as far as effort was concerned, I didn’t see anyone pulling out of tackles or giving up.
WHS.

Poor day at the office, lets face it we’ve not had too many of those this season, we now have a run of one game a week when hopefully a few of those injurys can clear up. not good today theres no hiding from that lets see how the squad react over Christmas.

We have had plenty of joy this season so lets not go over the top about this display, i suspect even though every one talked about not taking them lightly it gets into players heads that they will win and subconsiously they do not play with the same intensity, I also thought lairds despite all there diving, histrionics and bad sportmanship were not a bad side helped by 4 tranmere loanees, at the end of the day we had plenty of chances to have won it twice - we will miss Liam in games like this, where he leads the line well is a bit stronger and brings a different edge to our game plus his fair share of goals, still need another striker imo chris gaghan gives us wing options now, defence has cover but up front we seem a bit light weight, as others have said no panic, lets hope the run of 1 game per week allows us to get the best of our squad fit. ps how poor was the ref again today ?

3 steps forward, 1 step back.I can live with that as we WILL get there in the end.

Good teams bounce back after a 2-1 defeat  and i’m sure Witton will @ Curzon Ashton !

We created enough chances to win.I thought throughout the match that it was not going to be our day.The manager was right with his piece in the Guardian,Lairds do not play like a team that is struggling.

Great to see Chris Gahgan back.He took his goal very well, forced the goalie into a good block and followed up the rebound.

For what it is worth my man of the match was Anthony Gardner, also Ennion is looking an established player at this very demanding level.Schofield also gave a good performance, albeit late on.He produced a very clever flick over the defence with one of his first touches.

We are in the top half dozen approaching Christmas and setting ourselves up for a very interesting second half of the season.
