Why do we seem to bottle it in the big games ie ist half v gateshead at home, telford in the league game and the playoff final? To play one up front proved to be a big mistake but to be fair to jim he hasnt got much wrong has he. It was the first time i’d seen Rapley play and wasnt to impressed does need improve and sure he will. Saying all that it was a bad the at the office today but i would rather be where we are with the points on the board than games in hand. Looking forward to sat to make amends.
My thoughts exactly about Rapley.Lacks pace and does not seem a thinking footballer.May be he will improve only time can tell.
… not good today boys!!! …
lets hope saturday is a different story !!
come on witttttoooonnn!!!
:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
I have to say I am impressed with the balanced reaction on here so far.
YES we didn’t play at all well. Fair play to Fleetwood they were better organised, won nearly all the 50:50 balls and just seemed to want it more.
BUT we are still top of the league today and I believe we will still be top on the last day of the season.
I thought the crowd tried really hard to lift the team despite the poor performance.
How we react to this is all important; if we play to our potential we can beat anybody. Let’s do it against Lincoln next Saturday
Keep the faith!!
An absolutely disgusting performance. Each and every player should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
I know that every team has their off day, but i have never seen an off day as frustrating as this. I wouldn’t have minded getting beat 3-0 as much if we actually had a fairly decent game and actually managed to string passes together and win balls for more of the game. Shame it happened when there was such a big gate, we didn’t see what we are capable of, that would have been a good entertainment for the people that don’t usually come along to watch.
We most definately havn’t thrown it away, we can come back from this bad defeat and we will put in a good fight for the top place! Cmon the Alion!
Long way to come from Birmingham for that rubbish. My wife was unimpressed when I said I was going, she thought I was mad. I hate it when she’s right. That said, I’d still rather be in Witton’s position. Games in hand are just there to be lost. If Fleetwood win all their remaining games, good luck to them but I don’t think they will. Still ours to lose. No more performances like that though please…
The easiest way to deal with yesterday is to shout and scream and have a go at the team. We have lost 1 home game all season, I repeat 1 HOME GAME ALL SEASON! The wins at Gateshead and Marine more than make up for yesterdays performance. We are still in the driving seat, 8 points clear at this stage of the season regardless of games in hand is still a strong position to be in. The team have been excellent this season, 1 game does not make them a bad team.
Don’t know whether it’s the right thing to say but there were a lot of non regulars there today spouting absolute nonsense. Never heard so much sh1t.
Onwards and upwards, bring on Lincoln. Let’s see how we are a week tomorrow after the Cods have played Guiseley and Buxton
Spot on Greg. Alot of people have worked hard to get new fans into Witton over the last 12 months or so, but it’s at times like this that i wish the 5 minute Witton fans would get themselves back across the canal. We had a bad day, the system didn’t work out. BUT, we did play the same system at Matlock and won, so it wasn’t an untried formation either.
Time for a reality check; we’re still top of the league with just 4 weeks of the season left. Hands up who would of taken that after losing at Lincoln? Anyone not holding their hand up now is clearly deluded!!!
We have to trust the players to play. And they have to be able to trust the SUPPORTERS to SUPPORT. They let us and themselves down yesterday, but let’s not go letting them down now.
Either get behind them on Saturday, or just stay away. We don’t need any negativity at this stage of the season. Telford thought they had won the league when they came here and beat us last season - it certainly isn’t over yet. Anyone posting on here is surely a Wittoner, and therefore only wants the best for this Club. If we give it our everything for the next month then we can do this.
Saturday is an excellent opportunity to bounce back - the league’s bottom Club at home. And as an extra incentive; we owe them for beating us on the opening day!!
On a side note; to leave 20 minutes early is inexusable. If you’re happy to celebrate in the bar after we’ve won games, then have the balls to be there to take it on the chin when we lose.
ONWARDS AND UPWARDS.
Also inexcusable is walking behind the dugout and openly slagging Jim off with 5 minutes of the game left. A certain well known female mouthpiece was all too happy to do that yesterday. Everyone is disappointed - as is well in evidence by my earlier post - but everyone who was at games such as Buxton away and Ilkeston at home knows we DO have a winning mentaility and we DO have a fighting spirit and we WILL win the league.
What makes it even more inexusable is that all true Witton fans should still behind goal with 5 minutes to go, if for no other reason than to acknowledge Pritch. He comes over and applauds the fans after every game - win, LOSE, or draw. The least we can do is show him the same respect. How ever much everyone else is hurting today, you can be sure Brian Pritchard is feeling it too.
If anyone has an issue with Jim’s tactics, or how the team played, then speak to him after the game. He’ll hear you out, and then like every good manager he will tell you why he thinks that he is right and you are wrong.
That was such a gut-wrenchingly awful afternoon it’s not surprising there was so much reaction yesterday.
However true supporters don’t turn on their team and its appalling to slate Jim.
There has been a lot of sense spoken on here and the spirit of Wittoners is showing through.
Yesterday is history, albeit painful.
We are still top of the league and Fleetwood have got a lot of games to play including long distance midweekers.
We have to respond well, that’s the supporters as well as Jim and the lads.
All our remaining games are winnable, let’s do it!
Fleetwood got one over on us but we can still take the main prize.
Saturday can’t come soon enough for me but, for sure, Pritch and the boys will be even more eager to put things right.
We can show our bouncebackability big time on Saturday.
Bring on Lincoln
UP THE ALBION!
Cant really comment on the match (or my rubbish prediction!!3-0 Witton ) as I said earlier working away, but having seen similar games in recent years I know it doesnt take much imagination to to see the game unfold. but this does happen time and time again. It simply is lacking the killer touch. Because lets face it a win yesterday would have won us the league regardless of games left . I agree with nearly all the postings on here. We can put it down to unavailable players, bad day at the office etc etc. I hope the player read the posts on here Im sure most do , Its fair critisism, and theres only one way they can react.
And yes, its not over yet by a long way , we just left the door ajar a little . Fleetwood are at Guiseley Saturday, and at Buxton on Tuesday , I fancy Buxton to at least take a point . then its with us again. Both these teams are chasing play off positions too. Its still a big ask for Fleetwood.
All the comments so far totally reflect what we witnessed yesterday afternoon.
As I had both the local sports editors alongside me then I’ve had a quick look over the few notes I made but instead of re-writing then thought I’d provide the links to the respective Chronicle & Guardian match reports and comments as really I personally can add no more:-
Newspapers only look for something sensational to report to sell their product ( the Chronicle cannot even sell their paper anymore ) and we all know who the sports editor of the Guardian supports. The 2 line report on the Homepage sums it up for me so we move on.
As Greg & Co say good teams do not become poor teams after one bad result so just let’s give some credit to Fleetwood who got it spot on yesterday and left us with a bloody nose so we get up and fight, thats FANS and players and what will be will be.
Any true Wittoners amongst the extra spectators will be back for another look the rest can go away ( in jerking motions ) and seek glory elsewhere.

we dont become a bad team over one crap result.
If Fleetwood do win all of their games, and we once again have to accept the Play Offs - then so be it. We’ve lost once at home, and drawn once at home. We have to be confident that we will be good enough to at least go up through the back-door if it does come to that.
I still feel we will win the league, but the Play Offs is not a disaster. We’ve had 2 great seasons, but everyone seems to forget where we were a few years ago. Even the Play Offs were just a pipe-dream before Jim and Co came along.
No offense to any former players, but who would you replace from our current team with any of Gibson, Sanderman, Furnival, Mallinson, Burton, Rendell, Pavey, Sargeson, to name just a few. Even Adam Foy, who used to be one of our top players week on week, would get nowhere near this team.
A couple of weeks ago Fleetwood were calling for their manager to be sacked. Funny how things can change…
I wouldn’t take any of the players who left this time either. Apart from Mike Moseley…

We only know how to do things one way… the Witton way! It’s gonna be a bumpy ride between now and the end of April!
To have a go at Jim is inexcuseable. What the guy has achieved over the last 2 years is incredible and though I did not enjoy yesterday, put in context its one blip in all our home games this season. Ok you can point to the tactics and the organisation it probably would have been better to play 2 up front but I honestly think Fleetwood were really up for it yesterday and look to me to be the strongest team in the league. Bear in mind they scored one great goal and we gave them two others with poor defending. Again JK made a mistake but how many times as he stopped sure fire goals this season. I think they would have beaten us whatever team we turned out. In the normal course of a season we would have had the league won by now but the Codmen have slugged it out with us neck and neck and to be fair to them if they win all their remaining games they deserve to win the league.
As everyone says we need the players and Jim and Nige to come out fighting (figure of speech not actual fisticuffs), and overcome Lincoln. We must try and win all our games and this should be possible given that 4 are at home. Fleetwood looked formidble yesterday but a lot can happen in their remaining games so lets keep going stay positive and hope we go up as champions. If not we’ll have to roll up our sleeves up and do it via the play offs.
C’mon boys we can do this keep going!!
