We’ll need to be at our best off the field and back the lads all the way on Saturday, we have the best support in the league lets make ourselves heard on Saturday.

Penny Black where the old Post Office was in town (couple of doors down from Witton Chimes).

Apparently it’s a title decider!

You’d think that they were 3 points behind us not 16!!

Loud and Pround on Saturday. Impress the youngsters and parents and the gates will continue to rise.

It is SO important a game, not jusy for the promotion push but for possibly the greatest servant this club has ever had. (apart from Queenie Price of course, she is still alive and kicking at the Nursing home in Lostock) I have decided to risk the chamce of "Jonahing" and I will probaly come along just to be there to applaud Pritch as he thoroughly deserves.
WHS.

Fitting that you should come out of retirement for the occasion WHS - Pritch deserves all the applause on Saturday.

I think we need to be careful not to blow the game out of proportion, nothing will be decided on Saturday! We are currently 16 (that’s sixteen) points ahead of Gateshead and whilst they still have three games in hand, they will still be way behind even if then win all those games and our goal difference is worth another point!

We should go out on Saturday and play our normal game, with focus and belief, the same way we have reached the position we are in. There is no need to put ourselves under any additional pressure than we need to. We should approach this game the same as any other, with professionalism and with 100% commitment to go out and win. We have won 12 from 12 in the league at home this season and that record speaks for itself. There is no need to change the way we play or approach the game.

It is another Saturday and another win required. Let’s win this a game at a time, it is 11 versus 11, the best team on the day will win it. If we don’t win then we move on to the next one, all that matters is that we focus on the match.

The pressure is all on Gateshead. We can afford to lose this one - they can’t.

Brian’s record not the priorityFeb 13 2008

by John Buckley, Mid Cheshire Chronicle

BRIAN Pritchard makes a little history on Saturday, but it will be the present which demands the attention of clubs on either side of the Trent and Mersey Canal.

UniBond League leaders Witton Albion host third-placed Gateshead, while in the Blue Square Premier Division at the Marston’s Arena, third from bottom Northwich Vics welcome Weymouth, precariously positioned in 19th place.

Witton stalwart Pritchard is set to make his 605th appearance, having just equalled the all-time record of the legendary Alf Ashley. But there will be no guard of honour or celebration to mark the occasion.

Albion and Pritchard want nothing to distract them from their task.

Manager Jim Vince said: “Brian is a great servant, but we have business to take care of first and that’s the way he wants it too. There will be time for celebrations later.”

Vince has a fully fit squad to choose from and believes Gateshead’s 1-0 win on the same pitch last weekend in the League Cup will have no significance.

“We had a young team out and I was quite pleased with the performance. They had a strong team and deserved to win.

“But it was low key. I think they can play better, I am certain we can. The title won’t be decided on Saturday, but we can knock them out of the running.”

A Witton win and Gateshead would be 22 points adrift and a straight contest with Fleetwood would be the outcome.

Oddly, while Albion have won all their league games at home – and are the only pyramid side to do so – they have gone out of five cups at Wincham Park.

To the Wincham rabbit,
May I just say that you make great sense with everything you have to say, you always do. You are not Jim Vince are you?
WHS.

I don’t think in some ways that we can play like we normally do against Gateshead. I noticed they had big blokes at the back and they just were unbeatable in the air. We therefore need pace (Peersie) to get round the back and get the ball pulled back ino the area hard and low. We also need Lloydie with his slide rule passing abilty to thread it through on the deck and maybe even do one of his runs through their defence to split them open. We also need the runs into space off Adam and Rod and we know they’ll give 100%.They’ll be a tough team to break down but I know if we play anything like we can beat them. They remain however a very competent side and 3 points will be a giant step to winning the league. Hope Brian has a good game and wouln’t be great if he could thunder in a big header to win us the game!! You could almost write the script. What price Roy of the Rovers its Brian of the Albion!

Thanks WHS, no I am not JV, he is far more capable to making football decisions that I am. I just pop up from the warren now and again with the odd useless opinion!!! The great thing about football is that everyone thinks their opinion is the right one!

See you Saturday at Fortress Wincham (we have reserved you a space behind the goal)!!!

Bugs Bunny knows more about football than the Wincham Rabbit…

With regards the pub to drink in the town, I know the Penny Black is cheap, but what about supporting the only pub in town that supports Witton Albion through sponsorship? To my knowledge, that pub is The Thatched Tavern.

I know some people will think that I’m only saying this because I’m the Landlord, but that is no longer true, as I have now retired, so there is no hidden agenda in my putting forward the Thatch as a pre-match drinking place.

Bring on the Tynesiders
By James Wilson

JIM Vince has said he is looking forward to Saturday’s re-match against Gateshead.

Albion lost out to the Tynesiders in the League Challenge Cup on Saturday, thanks to a Paul Brayson wonder strike, but Vince told the Guardian the biggest game was yet to come.

He said: "It wasn’t a disappointment - I was quite pleased with the performance. If you look at the players who came in, in particular the younger lads, they accounted for themselves well.

"I have been consistent with my selection policy and I’ve used the competition as an exercise to give first team players a game if they need one.

"I don’t want to discredit the competiton but if I had wanted to win it I would have put a strong team out in every round. We have priorities this year, and that is to win the league."

Saturday sees Albion welcome the north easterners to Wincham Park again and the match could see Brian Pritchard setting a new appearance record for Witton - if selected.

He equalled the record of 604 appearances held by Alf Ashley when he skippered the side against Gateshead.

"Brian wasn’t as good as he normally was on Saturday", Jim said.

"It’s not all about one player at this club and at the end of the season I will congratulate him and hand him a bottle of Champagne, but I don’t want any distractions on Saturday. I’m employed to win things and I will celebrate with him when we win the league championship."

The Albion boss picked Gateshead as a rival for promotion back in the summer - now he has a chance to kick them out of the running.

"It’s a massive game," he said.

"The danger for us is coming from Gateshead and they know they must beat us to have any hope of catching us."

Albion head into the game 16 points clear of Ian Bogie’s men, who have three games in hand.

He said: "Gateshead were bigging themselves up after the game on Saturday but our lads should be confident. We are 12 games unbeaten at home in the league and I hope the lads perform to their capabilities."

2:22pm today

Very good point Jeff, I hope a few Wittoners can make it up there.

There’s been a local pub ‘guide’ on the site for some time now, but it only has the address and 'phone number, and only a few pubs mentioned. It would be great if someone, or a few people, could write a quick guide to their local. This would be useful to visiting fans, and I believe one or two Wittoners also like the odd drink (Used to do it myself!). I’ve enabled the comment system so registered users can add their own opinions. I’ll start a new thread, in a more relevant place, for suggesting new pubs / submitting comments.

How is the pitch coping with the overnight freezing at the moment? Is any help required putting on or removing covers tonight or in the morning?

How about drinks promotions for anyone wearing Witton colours?!
