May not have been one of the memorable games but 6-0 away win at Ossett Albion earlier this season was thoroughly enjoyable.Brilliant sunshine, warm day and back drop of lovely country side.Watched 1 hour of cricket then went across to watch The Albs demolish OA 6-0 and the pies weren’t bad either.
Matlock away in 2009 was my first away game! No idea why it took me so long to go to one. Have to thank Ched for convincing me to go. What a game, when Hellers volley flew in (best goal I’ve seen by a witton player) we all went mental. Left pegger was even smiling a rare occurance that season. A feeling which I have also had twice this season when titch scored against alty and barrow.
Great to read so many fond memories of our beloved club
UTA
I remember a few good away days at Lincoln United, including the first game of the season a few years ago when everyone was in fancy dress, and then we did the same during the 09/10 season. I also remember either a 5-1 or 6-1 win there, where I think Danny Byrne got a hat-trick, and I think Lee Spike scored, too.
Yes Thomas, Away to Lincoln 18th Aug '07 lot of supporters went in fancy dress as it was the opening day of the season. We lost 1-0 but it was an enjoyable day.I took some photos and this one might evoke memories.

Many games spring to mind, mainly from the UK Tour boys era (late 1980s-early 90s)
FA Trophy games at Colchester when we had to wait 45 mins inside the ground after beating them 2-0!, Kidderminster home and away and the replay at Stafford where we spent almost the whole first half singing Stan Allens barmy army!
FA cup games at Halifax (we won!), Bury and the great day at Preston where we had a huge following and about half a dozen arrests
The Pre season tour of Yorkshire around 1990 where we played at Mexborough on the Friday evening before i had a dozen Wittoners sleep at my house before an early train to Bridlington on the Sat morning to watch us stuff Bridlington Town 5-1 :cheer:
The incredible pre season game at Wealdstone (London), a dozen of us caught the train from Hartford to Kings Cross and enjoyed the cold beers on a red hot day in the capital, we beat them 3-2 and some local West Ham yobs kicked off at the final whistle and pinched Phil Carters Witton Flag
My most memorable I would have to say was the Preston FA Cup away game to, it was the 1st away game I had been to I was only 7 years old at the time and I thought every away game had such an atmosphere as that day
Another that stands out was away to Burscough in the Nigel Gleghorn era and we went 1-0 early on (if my memory serves me right) and we all sang ‘lets go f**king mental’ for about 15mins solid ha ha :woohoo:
Two games really stick out in my mind both in the FA Trophy. One the Semi Final second leg at home to Kidderminster Harriers, losing the first leg by the only goal and doing really well after having Andy Lee sent off and then taking the tie to a replay at Stafford. The other game was also a Trophy Semi Final after being held 2-2 at home by Marine in the first leg, absolutely destroyed them in the second leg with the highlight for me being Micky Halliday’s goal.
how could i forget kidderminster. my first game at witton. ive watched liverpool around europe including istanbul i was at anfield for both 4-3 games v newcastle but nothing compared to that game v kiddy
I think we should try and keep this as a running thread, it’d be a shame if it died.
I’d like to add Kendal away in August 2007. Pretty sure it was my first proper away game with the Albs. It also may have been a Bank Holiday Monday… Anyway we won 2-0. I got the away day bug and I’ve preferred to homes them ever since.
Also… For about two minutes during the Chester game in October 2010. 2-0 to 2-2 in the space of about 30 second sent us into euphoria. Only for them to get the winner a minute later!
Marine at home a few years ago when it was foggy. Couldn’t see a thing can’t believe the game went ahead!
5-2 I think wasn’t it, COTA?
Didn’t Rob Lloyd get a hat-trick?
Talking of other foggy games, Stocksbridge away when Carl Frost scored his first goal for the club, only for the game to be abandoned on 40 minutes. That goalie had no idea the players had gone of the pitch. I remember that being talked about on 5Live a couple of years later too.
Yeovil at The Central Ground was pretty memorable.
Alvechurch away - 1-0 down to I think 6-1 winners on the road to Wembley
St Albans away was good, from memory there was a tree right in the middle of one of the standing areas behind the goal, and then had missiles thrown at the coach on way home.
Getting run through Alty was memorable although not that funny at the time!!
Colchester away in the FA Trophy. A great win then singing “We love you police dog, we do” as the Colchester fans invaded the pitch at the end.
Also first Conference match, Cheltenahm away. I think Karl Thomas scored in a one nil win to the Albion. My mate went to the toilet and missed the only goal.

Baking hot day for the Cheltenham game I seem to remember as well. Supporters coach on the way home was a happy place to be.
Not for my mate. We were on the bus as well but it was a long way for him to miss the goal. Happy days.
Frickley away in the FA cup 4th quali round - Won 2-0 Tony Jarvis scoring both goals I seem to remember.

I was at the ST Albans game, and I remember we were under the cosh towards the end of the game, and their supporters started throwing missiles onto the pitch. Mark Lillis went over to the referee with 4mins of play left to go, and strongly suggested to him to blow his whistle before somebody got hurt. The referee kindly obliged, and the game ended on 86mins with a Witton win. Very canny Mark!

I seem to remember at St Albans having to go up a load of metal stairs to get to the bar, however being allowed to take your pint in to the ground made up for the unecessary workout in obtaining it!!
